Fuck manual cars

I don't know if they still make them in the US, but they sure do down here. I hate driving those things. Sure if you're a driving aficionado maybe you prefer them, but they're inconvenient, it's more of an effort to drive well in traffic and my left foot gets tired.

There's one good reason for an automatic: heavy traffic.
There's one good reason against an automatic: it'll break quicker than a manual and it'll be fucking expensive to repair/revise/replace.

Haha I love riding motorcycles and even a manual car. I guess it's because I've had to learn how to use the manual transmission when I was 8 when I got to ride my one of my friend's kx 65. Wow those were the days.

I cant afford to spend extra thousands of dollars to avoid pushing a pedal, so I buy manual transmissions.

I used to have a Toyota truck. I got stuck on like a 70% incline... and I survived.

I like my manual transmissions, and I love my Toyota truck.

Never been a fan of the automatic transmissions, but they do have there place.

My last car was an automatic. I loved driving it. The engine happened to give out before the transmission did, so I was spared that pleasure.

I was pissed when they didnt have my jeep in manual. Having a standard saved my ass with the good ole pop start many times. But slow highway traffic sucks with em. They do save on gas tho. But when your driving a bigger car i guess it doesnt matter.

option of the manual than you do for the automatic

I thought manual is usually cheaper?


When I first got my car a few weeks ago, switching from automatic was horrible. I have to make a drive from southern PA to VT in a few days and I regretted my decision to get a manual car, but then the next day I picked it up quickly and now I don't think I ever want to go back to automatic.

I drive a manual and I'll never own an automatic. It's silly to bitch about driving a manual and I think every self respecting man should be able to drive a manual.

An automatic transmission will run for over 250000 miles if properly maintained. The only problem is that nobody does what they are supposed to do. By ignoring their regular maintenance and fluid swaps (even engine oil, ps fluid etc) their cars start to act like shit.

Also, if you take a cold piece of metal and gears, crank it up and just start driving you are fucking shit up. Start your cars, let them run for a sec, then put it in gear wait for a few seconds and begin driving normally. you can make a transmission out of space age titanium alloy, but if you'r going to just abuse the shit out of it...it will fail as well.

People seem to forget that cars are a luxury, not a god given right. They take them for granted and treat them like shit just expecting it to work flawlessly over time.

I just got a new Chevy because the frame finally rotted out on my '97 S10. It had 289000 miles on its original transmission. I sold that transmission to a refurbishing plant for $2500.

Don't blame the machines.....90% of problems are Operator Error.

$2500 for a tranny? I have a hard time believing that a refub plant gave you that much. could be wrong though. I would figure like $250 maybe :shrug:

It should be mandatory to know how to drive a manual transmission vehicle to get your drivers license.

Used to be. Economy of quantity make automatics the less expensive route for most cars these days.

There's absolutely no guarantee. And most manual boxes on average last longer than automatics. Which is unsurprising, given the complexity of an automatic transmission and the prevalence of parts that are sensitive to abuse or bad maintenance.
