First Cultivation, and confused!
    #7288412 -

Hi guys up here

I set up my first experience 3 weeks ago, growing from Z strain and B+ strain. But, being a newb (although I've been reading shit loads of info on cubensis cultivation since) I started with the vermiculite and rice flour technique ( 3 x 250 ml of both strains) and nourishing my scientific tendencies, made a mix from what I could find for the rest of my pots, which means : Vermiculite, rice flour, straw, dung and plant seeds ( seemed to be a good source of nutrients, who knows!)

Then, 3 weeks from then, they all showed sings of mycelinial growth... but on very different stages and aspects. I'm confused!

Those with the classic technique got colonized twice as fast, but not in a very dense way (I can still see the vermiculite, but they are completely colonized), while the other ones colonized in an extremely dense way (thick pure white mycelium), but not everywhere.

What should I do ??? Are those from the basic technique considered ready to be taken out of the pots? Will the other ones actually finish colonizing (cause they progress only very slowly) ?

The first pic is from the PF teks (phone pic sorry) that shows that its completely colonized, but far from thick white, just strainy mycelium.

The second is from my home mix I tried, its either very lightly colonized, or super thickly colonized (like the white patch on the right)

Its very difficult to tell from those pictures, but I'm sure everything is fine...as long as the mycelium is progressing...

Another thing, Is it better to actually put my cakes in damp perlite, or simply take the cap of my pots off to let the shrooms grow?

You might want to dunk them for 24 hours, and roll them in Verm. Then sit them on a 3-4 inch layer of damp perlite. Dont put your cake directly on the perlite though, put them on the cap of your jar....

or you can case them.

Drunk them, you mean completely in water? To make shure they have enough humidity then... ? Some Are actually straight on damp perlite, will it make something bad? And Simply spraying water on them frequently, thats a good idea?

yes. put them each in their own tupperware container full of water and put them in the fridge for 24 hours. take them out, rinse them under the sink, roll them in vermiculite, and moisten the vermiculite. and pop em in the fruiting chamber.

if they are directly on the perlite, they can absorb too much water and may become water logged. do not spray the cakes directly, you dont want any standing water or water droplets on the cake. just spray a couple feet above your fc and let the fine mist fall into the fruiting chamber.
