PC'd Vermiculite casing on a cultivating cake

Ok, this guy I know has a jar cultivating with no vermiculite. He's going to pc some vermiculite and pour it on top of the rye (before the rye has totally cultivated). How does this work opposed to just waiting untill the rye is cultivated totally and THEN puring dry normal verm straight from the bag? Does it matter? Isnt there some more time saved by justletting the rye become a cake and pouring un pc'd verm ontop?

uhh... you have kind of confused me but wouldnt that be a huge contamination risk? especially if he poured the verm on top of the grain before it was fully colonized... (stuff for mold to take over)

There were two options:
1.) pour the verm on a fully colonized cake
2.) pour pressure cooked verm on a not so colonized cake
what would be best, I would say option number 1. Saving time...
