Peace to all. There are at least a few American ideals I can do without though. Mowed lawns. Fast food. "progress". Nice country though! ~urk

Without the shedding of blood there is no freedom. I respect your opinion but my rubbtle is this...Ghandi's followers were freed without ever lifting their hands in anger. Just food for thought...

While Ghandi was busy practicing pacifism the British shed the blood of Eastern Indians over and over again. They didn't give up and won their freedom but their blood was shed plenty.

That's very true! I wasn't implying that one could not gain freedom without fighting. But many of them died for their freedom and as everyone is aware Ghandigee was shot to death for his pacifism as was Martin Luther King, John Lennon, etc etc etc.
Liberty is one of life's most precious things and it really makes me see red (which is VERY rare) when some idiot doesn't realize the price someone had to pay for them to have it.

chodamunky, for one thing it wasn't Mr Mushrooms who offered the one-word answer. For another, Shroomalicious' point is well-made, though incomplete. MM did a good job of explaining the role of violence in the pursuit of freedom. I'm not going to paraphrase what he said, what's the point, he did it well enough. MM didn't discount Shroom's point, he just qualified it: even in the path to peace that Ghandi, et al, followed, expect some violence. From the opposition. Furthermore, I don't think any of this discounts what Krishnamurti is proposing.

Thanks hongomon. I guess he got confused over who said what. It would be nice if we could get everyone to lay down their arms and hug one another but that is a little naive given the nature of man. Unfortunately the freedom that everyone enjoys has a price. I thought we all needed reminded of that.

I respect everyone because I think the human heart is just magical. I think we ALL just want what is best and the wars happen because we don't agree on how to get there.

I see things differently. I think that some wars are started because some people hate other people because of their race or ideology. I do not see anything magical about the human heart that excuses the behavior of Osama Bin Laden, pedophiles, rapists, murderers, etc. There is evil in the heart of man. Otherwise there would be no evil.

Happy fourth of july! Hail to the theif! To the Republic, for which we fell, one nation, over god, with liberty and justice for some. Remember when you voted for Bush? Fuck you because he robbed us all of our basic rights by stealing the election. How about my right to life? A life where I'm not lied to all my life and told that I live in a fair, democratic society when in reality it's a corrupt oligarchy. The upper class rules cause money is now God. Happy fourth of july!
