I certainly do not ascribe to this, do you?

If evil was an intelligence and not a combination of nature and nurture, then anti-psychotic drugs would not seem to be the remedy to put the evil genie back in the bottle.

my intention was to be directed to sources which deal with this problem today. perhaps i've used "new age" incorrectly. i've been reading the magazine "what Is Enlightenment?" I've read "The Celestine Prophecy" and I've read "Is there Life After Death?" (which it would prolly be difficult to consider 'new age'.)

I'm gonna check those titles out markos, thanks.

one has to draw from many sources. i would hardly consider this a weakness...

Hmmmm. Arguing with one's self is NOT a good sign.

Nor is using the Celestine Prophecy as a factual resource.

Not all mental disease is chaulked up to the workings of infernal intelligence[s], but sometimes the unusual degree of paranormal events that constellate around a 'possessed' individual, open up into a domain which goes beyond the phenomenology of known mental disorders. Of course the psyche is completely engaged, and it gets back to the arguments about what consciousness is. Clearly a materialistic understanding of consciousness as an emergent property of the biological brain is not going to entertain a non-materialistic theory (e.g., a Buddhist psychological theory of Consciousness) let alone an 'autonomous' (Agent Smith?) 'eddy' of infernal consciousness in the Infinite Sea of Consciousness.

Ever since the New Testament's account of the demoniac, exorcised by Jesus and another by apostles has the interaction of seeming madness and demonic possession become intertwined. Bram Stoker brilliantly wrote this theme into his character Renfield who was considered insane but was actually demonically possessed within the story line of 'Dracula.'

I would only suggest that you read Martin's book (the 5 cases were used as source material for the book/film The Exorcist). Demonic possession is one of those things that few people would ever encounter unless there was a reason to involve those people. The Roman Catholic Rite still exists, but it has to be sanctioned by The Vatican. I have been to shrines at Yorubaland in the heart of Nigeria and have seen a priestess of Oshun, The River Goddess seemingly 'possessed,' but acting controlled. I have heard possessions of Haitians who lived next door, apparently being 'ridden' by a 'Lwa,' and I have long known a drummer in Miami Santaria (for whom I took 'sacred stones' from Yorubaland) who has described possessions by the 'Orishas.' But I have not witnessed the kind of phenomenon that Martin describes. Martin, the thinly disguised real name behind the character of Father Marin in The Exorcist, was the real deal.

So, do I "ascribe to this?" Well, let me just say that this book (all of these books and accounts) are now in my knowledge base and I recommend that you not 'close your accounts with Reality' until you have read Hostage to the Devil completely.

Perhaps you can explain the relevance of a fictional work on whether or not evil exists in the world.

Should one reference 'Star Trek' when discussing astro-physics?

if the writers of a given episode are discussing subject matter of philisophical importance (such as the many worlds interpretaion of the universe), then i would have no problem with one citing this episode as a source, so long as their whole argument wasn't based on this source.

but, the celestine prophecy is not fictional in the same way that star trek is fictional. anyone who is familiar with the two would know this. while i don't subscribe to all of the theories implied in the celestine prophecy, i don feel it makes some important points...

at least it does if one is making any real progress, otherwise they are simply ignorant of their ignorance. and ignorance is not empowering, so their is nothing really threatening about these kinds of people. (other than physical violence maybe)

sorry, but i'd consider adolf hitler a threat to humanity. considering we've come quite close to blowing uourselves up with nukes i find it difficult to accept your belief that 'evil' or 'ignorance' is no threat. where do you live bud? land of the sugar plum fairies?

maybe you should re-read my post. you've taken out a snippet and twisted what it was i was trying to communicate. i never said nukes or people like hitler were no threat, i said only that no "evil" spiritual force could exist, like the devil for example.

im very grounded in reality, my lenses are clear. no sugar plum fairies here.

arguing with one's self is in fact a good sign. it shows that one is not sure of oneself, which is perhaps the greatest mistake a thinker can make.
