scientology horrifies me

I in no way wish to be offencive but my god

so many people being taken advantage of. it seriously leaves me speechless. to me it brings back memories of the heavens gate atrocity...

I kinda agree... I just see a bunch of people getting taken advantage of...

Although, as x said, not to be offensive to anyone- I kinda see all religion as taking advantage of its people- not just financially, but also in finding peoples weaknesses and using them for thier own means.

no, I take that back- not ALL religions take advantage of its people. When i wrote that i was thinking of conventional religion- christianity, etc. A few of the eastern religions like taoism doesnt seem to take advantage of anyone (although I may be wrong due to my lack of complete knowledge of this religion).

I don't think scientology is any better or worse than most religions.

i would highly recommend checking out this BBC documentary. I can agree that it may be rather biased... im not one for being one sided but i have yet to see anything that makes me less weary of scientology. i would ask any scientologists on here to offer up any info but i dont think there would be any hahahah

im certainly not pretending to be an expert or anything. I form my opinion from what i've observed. whether that be news stories or the official website for scientology.

perhaps it would make you happy if i rephrased it to "what i've seen of scientology horrifies me"

i believe that it is an organization that preys on people subjectable to such nonsence. theatons and volcanos and things of the like. they make one hell of a profit doing it too.

they displace the blame of concentration camps onto psychiatry? I think the "church" of scientology is hostile towards germany about not being deemed a religion. They are, at the core, a cutthroat organization that, as found in the original writing of L. Ron Hubbard, will do anything necessary to scare off any negative attention. They will dig up as much dirt as they possibly can about the people who stand against them, or even sue... i quote L. Ron...

"The purpose of the lawsuit is to harass and discourage rather than to win. If attacked on some vulnerable point by anyone or anything or any organization, alwyas find or manufacture enough threat against them to cause them to sue for peace... Dont ever defend, always attack"


Ex scientologists have come forward to confirm that the "church" has sent PI's and other members to follow people, namely members of the press who may not be casting the most positive light on them. They try to find any way to intimidate or discredit...

people cut off family members completely as would be seen in a cult

so, maybe i dont know everything. But, i've learned enough to form my own opinion. I see it as nothing more than a well organized cult with a great PR department.

to answer your question, yes, i feel i know enough to be truly horrified

OH! So what you've heard about scientologists horrifies you. That makes much more sense. Scientology has never done anything to anyone, nor has Christianity or Islam. People commit atrocities, not belief systems.

Some belief systems lend followers easier excuses for their unskillful behavior, but this is still dependent upon the followers.

I don't think scientology is any better or worse than most religions.


Scientology is not so different from Judeo-Christian religions, especially as they were practiced in the Medieval Ages. The main difference is one of wording, in that it replaces demons with "body thetans" and inspires a futuristic sense of superstition in its followers.

It in no way resembles the Dharmic religions in its message, however, which tend to emphasize more than the individual's choices and their suffering in relation to their thoughts, an entirely valid way to understand mental reality.

horrified is the word i chose because, in my opinion, it's a cult that is sucking people in and theres nothing to be done about it. It's almost been made into a joke (not that i don't love the south park episode dealing with scientology :tongue:), when in reality it's brainwashing people and in some cases, completely alienating them from their loved ones (not to mention the money in their pockets..)

anyways. im sorry if my opinions or my posting this really pissed anyone off

this is true, but the "religion" itself was founded with writings that encouraged the negative practices....
