because they believe that they do more harm than good.
now, there are hundreds of little things I could point out, and go on and on... but that is because I personally have a huge beef with psychiatry. I wouldnt want that coming out and superimposed on trying to tell you guys what I know about scientology. but one big reason is probably that psychaitry threw the first stone. it wasnt scientology that attacked psychiatry because it was competition, but rather psychiatry that attacked scientology because it was competition. Dianetics actualy put a visible dent in income through that sector.
when I am not at work, I can post some shit that psychiatric organizations, or psychiatry linked professionals have done towards scientology... especially deprogrammers.

I'm not a fan of psychiatry either, but whenever I talk to a Scientologist about it, they bring up irrelevant shit like Nazi psychiatrists during the holocaust.
Do you have any more information about psychiatry throwing the first stone? I'd like to know more about that.

I just looked up, and found some original l. Ron Hubbard quotes, and bits from various scientology handbooks that say that An operating thetan can control matter energy space and time. I also found scientology source material that says that OT8 is the first "true" level of operating thetan.
i found second hand sources that imply that OT 8 is therefore the first OT level that A person can then begin controlling MEST (they're word for matter energy space and time).
so you're saying that you're unfamilar with this idea?

I am very curious about the L. Ron Hubbards relation to Aleister Crowley as well. I know that L. Ron Hubbard was Jack Parsons sort of scryer for various magickal rituals (which seems very sketchy to me, Jack Parsons trusted L. Ron Hubbard a great deal, then L. Ron Hubbard ran off with his girlfriend and his money). I do not know of L. Ron Hubbard actually having any relations to Crowley, but I will look into it.
Anyone have any info on this?
Edit: This seems like a good source for info on the relationship of Aleister Crowley to L. Ron Hubbard: http://www.mt.net/~watcher/crowleyhubbard.html

Now, I am not a Scientologist, but I do know a shit load about it... especially its beliefs. and that is what I want to focus on, the beliefs. Im sure people will post videos from clambake and whatnot, but oh well, that comes with the territory I guess.
So if you have any questions concerning what a scientologist believes, like regarding afterlife, philosophy just any doctrines... feel free to ask them and I will answer them to the best of my ability and knowledge. Now I promise to not tell you anything that I dont know to be true regarding the churchs beliefs, and if so, i will preface it with "i believe". Because I havent been aroudn any scientologists for a while, my knowledge is probably 5 years or mroe out of date... but I dont think that much has changed.
so... ask away.
i just want to say to you yawning, that this thread is fucking righteous. way to be man, explaining shit for people who don't understand. 5 shrooms for you my dude.

this might shed some more light on it. http://www.lronhubbard.org/eng/fightrae/page084.htm#civic along with this statement from scientology itself. ""What the Church opposes are brutal, inhumane psychiatric treatments. It does so for three principal reasons: 1) procedures such as electro-shock, drugs and lobotomy injure, maim and destroy people in the guise of help; 2) psychiatry is not a science and has no proven methods to justify the billions of dollars of government funds that are poured into it; and 3) psychiatric theories that man is a mere animal have been used to rationalize, for example, the wholesale slaughter of human beings in World Wars I and II".[4]
I thought about posting the things like churches getting burned down in germany, and deprogrammers being convicted of kidnapping.... but that isnt what I made this thread for.... once we get into the realm of "who attacked who" bias gets in the way... and Im not here to change anyones mind about scientology, but rather just present what I know about their beliefs.

no, Im not unfamiliar with it... but I think this is why it is so important to have some reference of their beliefs before you make assumptions. what he means is that everything up to OT8 was focused on giving you Cause over your own self, physically and mentally. "This is where Ron gets down to the fundamentals of a thetan with his native state capabilities operating in, and in contest with, the physical universe. Here is his discovery of the one factor which exceeds existence itself. These are the laws of life stripped from the very fabric of the MEST universe and laid down for anyone who wants to regain his true beingness and the ability that is natively his....Scientology 8-8008 begins the road to higher states of existence."
basically OT8 is the beginning of controlling your environment, or exerting cause over it... but Im pretty sure this doesnt include telekinesis, time travel and flying. but you are right in that OT8 is supposedly the very first point of being a true operating thetan.
there are actually 15 OT levels... probably more than that... but they havent been released. scientology claims that they will not be released until every single person on earth is Clear.
