Do you think it is possible to achieve enlightenment?

I'd say it is, but I thought I'd post a poll to see how many people here believe you can genuinely free yourself from worldly attachment and achieve enlightenment.

All depends on what you classify it as being.

I don't really see the viture in freeing yourself from worldly attachment though. Moderation is k3y.

even the 'enlightened' yern for dis-enlightenment if they stay that way too long








I voted 'no' on this one...even though *technically* it IS a 'yes'

but simply because it seems to me that you're never truely free if you're still capable of 'plugging yourself back in again' (that the 'freedom' is just simply one side of the same spectrum...and that you will always exist *somewhere* along that line)

I voted yes, but do not think that it is possible to stay enlightened.  It seems more like a game of "peek-a-boo," in which we repeatedly cover our own eyes, and then randomly peek out again--OH!  There it is!  :shocked:

None of us can become enlightened. Enlightenment as opposed to delusion, which is what I think you are talking about in this thread, is not really enlightenment. Enlightenment must be beyond any such concepts.

can you observe your mental process?
immerse in the reverberations of your own experiences?
keep awareness on that for a bit, get used to the bumpy ride.
you already are used to it,
maybe not aware that you are used to it.
each momentary attitude (each 3 second mask of personal pagentry)
can seem adrift and lost
longing for cessation of trying to identify with just one expression or "me"

See, attaining something implies gaining something that you have not always had. Not so with emptiness, for it has always been you. You cannot attain yourself. That's just silly.

What if your emptiness was filled to the brim with pure crap then later down the road you realized this was a problem?? You understand that you at one time were the emptiness and this now moves one to desire the attainment of that state again??
