Non-duality - the only way to think?
    #6957591 -

I am sure that since the day I was born I have had the idea thrust upon me that reality has a dual aspect. By dual I mean a reality consisting of two separate realities; the one that you perceive and the one that "the others" perceive. If this is your perspective then it is likely that events such as social occasions will be marred by feelings of great tension. I think that tension is generated solely by ones view on the nature of reality.

I believe that reality is non-dual and that we are all experiencing ourselves subjectively (I know, Bill Hicks had it right). Basically this all means we are living our own dream in which we encounter a vast world of dreamers. Though our dreams are individually hugely varied, they are all part of one dream. All of our consciousnesses are not separate, they are part of the whole, consisting of every conscious being.

This view enables one to notice the similarities in people before the differences. It enable people to be completely free and open with each other, as they are all part of one energy, one consciousness.

This could either sound like complete nonsense or like I might be on to something. Anyone care to suggest which?

When I am feeling high and connected the world truly does seem to be one big dream to me.

it is very realistical but also the tension is very much related to needing a sense of approval, or acceptance.

it gets easier if you are more comfortable with yourself being the way you are.

also, being comfortable with yourself the way you are is almost a kind of energy that you can share, it is certainly is a valuable perspective in all circumstances - real or imagined.

Yes; I believe we are not so much 'different' as we are unique individuals of an infinite whole.

Yes, but everybody's dream is different. It is not duality, but an infinite number of possible realities whether you sense it or not.

"A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

i spend a few years fighting the duality mindset.. but i finally embraced it. It may not be the ultimate truth of life, but as a human, with opposing everything (left hand, right hand, left brain, right brain, left eye, right eye, and so on) - duality is so thoroughly embedded within us, non-duality is really just an abstract concept, although not hard to imagine if you try.

unless of course you cheat, and embrace androgeny - unity of opposites (e.g. being able to see in 3 dimensions requires 2 eyes. using only one limits you to 2 dimensions)

Paradoxically, to embrace non-duality is to embrace dualism as well.
