What is ego loss?

From all the literature I've read, I've been getting ego loss on every single one of my trips, and it is: The perfect state of mind.

I walk around town noticing everything. Everything is shiny and VERY CLEAR. As if my vision is way beyond 20/20. I love looking at people and seeing different facial features. I love looking at anything. Everything in my field of view makes the perfect postcard.

I am able to talk to people, which is not normal for me, as I am very anxious socially, and find it hard to speak to strangers. Normally I can't put what I know, or want to say, into words correctly. Under this state, I can THINK before I speak.

I feel as if my normal life is VERY clouded by anxiety and daydreams (megalomania). Is what I am describing above, ego-loss, or is it something else that I'm experiencing?

The best way I can describe it is being 100% in the present moment... when sober, I am 99% in the past or future, or in a daydream.

Please give me specific examples of your ego loss experiences.

If "you" could see anything at all...it wasn't ego loss :wink:

You may have experienced some weakening of the ego, but certainly not a loss of the ego.

I feel like my ego is always clouding my judgment, and in that state of mind, I was 'above' it and 100% into my environment. It feels like somewhere between being sober and ego death.

In all my meditation books, they describe what I am talking about as, nirvana, or awareness in Insight Meditation.

You'll know true ego-death when it happens. What kinds of doses of what kinds of psychedelics are you taking?

nah, not ego-loss/death. if "it" occurs, you will know it and it will humble you beyond anything you thought imaginable.

all you had/saw, was a good trip my friend  :thumbup:  just go slow, and if you show it respect, the mushrooms will show you much

There's a diff between ego loss and ego death. I know ego death, and it is very scary but also a very profound experience.

In the experiences I speak of above, I see everyone as an animal. It's sort of comical. I see us all as animals covered up in clothes and makeup. Imagine a monkey wearing a suit and glasses.

I lose awareness of my physical me. I still feel physical sensation, but I can easily ignore it, or disassociate myself from it. I feel like a spirit, or a ghost, just walking around town looking at everything.


Psychedelic I'm talking about psilocybin. Doses are 3-5g of shrooms on a semi-empty stomach. When I fast for 12-20 hours and then take the same dose (with lemon or without), I get ego death.

Ego-death and Ego-loss are the same thing. What you write sounds like a softening of the ego...not a total loss of it.

With those doses of mushroom, I would not expect ego-loss, just a softening (at times severe) of the ego.

Try blending mushrooms with a small amount of lemon or lime juice. The blended mixes hit really quickly, and make the peak come sooner. It doesn't last quite as long, but I just like the fast come-up. Slowly coming up feels uncomfortable sometimes, but I can be impatient when it comes to psychedelics. A heavy dose with a fast come-up has a better chance of causing ego loss/death.

fuck, i can hardly walk around a grocery store anymore without feeling a bit strange looking at all the monkeys walk around in clothes. language is another thing that really gets me. it's all just one big elaborate mating call.

Ya I used to think like that perhaps sometime after a trip, and I still can if I really want to, but I prefer to go with the flow on how I perceive humans and language rather than super anaylize things. :grin:

You just had a good time walking around town..

if used correctly,3-5g is PLENTY to make you have a rebirth ego death experience. It wont happen walking around town.

Lie down and close your eyes, and completely let go. You will think your dieing, let go anyway. Then you are/become a place that can not be described with human language.
This is ego death.


If your reasons are true and you have respect for your teacher then you will have ego loss/death in time.And you will not have to ask if it was ego death you WILL absolutely KNOW.

Now if your reasons are recreational and you do not find spiritual enlightenment thru plants then you might never be set free.And IF you do, then you will be scared shitless and will not gain anything good from your journey. Use wisely.

I freaked the fuck out the first time it happened to me.  I still gained a lot from it though.  I feel like I could do it again now and let go without flipping shit, much more can be learned that way.:mushroom2:
