In the story habituality (i.e. symbolic order, meaning, etc) is broken down for a few people.
IT (the non-conceptual, that which shows the cracks between the habitual ideologies
that give security) breaks their ideology and thus ego (or rather shows that its completeness
was an illusion).

As children they do not have any means of coping with this trauma.
IT is something
to be against (unpleasant, repulsion, no understanding, yet they're children so they
have no larger theory/philosophy about the world so they just go through with it).

As adults IT returns and they begin to make theories about why IT has happened as
children (to deal with the trauma).

IT is the asubjective experience that fragments the "I think" and brings the characters
back into the horrifying asubjectivity of "I am".

IT is the rupture of "I think" that bursts their egos. They are symbolically killed,
but are they as bodies dead?
