Unfolding Nature Shop: Unfolding Nature: Being in the Implicate Order

Death=freedom
    #6691231 -

I feel like such an emo fag posting this but I've been feeling pretty bumbed out about school (the work load is getting ridiculous).

If you found out tomorrow that you were to die in exactly 6 weeks what would you do? I know I would quit school and do everything I always dreamed of doing. People wouldn't think I was a dropout or 'loser' because they would know the situation I was in and feel bad. Knowledge of my impending death would be my road to freedom, but yet we are always on our way to dying.

Why is it that you only get the chance to truly live the way you want when death is right around the corner; especially when other people know you are going to die? I know I could do the same things even if I wasn't going to die but it wouldn't be the same and you know it. Why is that? I don't know exactly what I'm trying to say but sometimes I think, "Man those people with terminal diseases are actually the lucky ones."

I feel like such an asshole saying that because I don't want to offend anyone but seriously its true. Would you rather get hit by a car crossing the street tomorrow or find out you had cancer at your next doctor visit? IDK

"Live life as if you were to die tomorrow" I always hear that but does anyone actually do that. Its as if the decisions I make will hurt the people around me more than myself.

Of course you could get hit by a car on your way home from the doctor visit, but by that time you would be living.

So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

I'd probably kill a few people and ingest absolutely decadent amounts of drugs for the last 6 weeks.

we could all die this second and if not this second then it will certainly be another second.

the urge to live life to the fullest after discovering the moment of one's death seems to me much like a desperate attempt to squeeze the last drops of water out of life and thus appears to be a reaction based on fear.

a free human being is not blown away by the ticking clock of mortality. he responds moment to moment and does not try to justify the last days of his life just because he knows he's going to die. a free person knows that there is no clock and no last day because everything exists here and now as infinite consciousness.

that's how i feel about it and it depends of course on how one defines free, so take this only as my opinion. :smirk:

If you were going to die tomorrow, would you waste time thinking about what would make what is left of your life worthwhile, or would you just make it worthwhile and not think about how worthwhile it is.

I wouldn't consider things as being worthwhile but simply things I would want to do and simply can't because it would be shunned upon by others.

Do you think that death is the only freedom you would have from the shunning of others?

You know better.

I actually used to feel exactly like this.

If possible, take a short vacation. Take little breaks in the day where you do absolutely nothing...meditate. It has helped me realize that a discipline (pretty much any type of "work") can be useful for feeling good, even ecstatic. It's not what you do, but how.

And you're right, knowledge of impending death does set you free. Maybe partly because you're free of obligations, but mostly because you change your attitude and have gratitude for the moment. I try to make myself realize that every day there is a chance that I could die, although I admit I need to spend my time being much, much more grateful.

I agree!

I would just like to add that warrior societies viewed life this way. Death gives your life meaning. Like what was stated, it motivates you to act. Did you want your life to be one of a person who succumbed to his fears.? Or did you want it to be one of a person that triumphed over it? The first choice was often viewed as worst than death itself. However, stuff like Bushido in real life were just Ideals, most of the samurais were human too and maybe only a few actually triumphed. Dying in a battle is not necessarily a triumph and a lot died in vein.

I myself am living more towards the succumbing than the triumphing. Yup, something I need to work on.

I'm just wondering why death has to be right around the corner before you'll actually start living your life like that?

I mean - is impending doom really necessary to motivate you?  :what:

Not so much motivation. Im talking about freedom. Kind of like, "have to go to college to make everyone happy" shit that I wish I could escape.

THIS is what I'm refering to here

what's keeping you from 'walking that path' right now?
why would you need anything to coerx you into living the sort of life you'd truely love to live?

Its as if the decisions I make will hurt the people around me more than myself.

This just isn't possible. Every person (adult) decides for themselves to be hurt emotionally or not. They don't have to, they choose to. If you really want to die then do it. If you are just blowing off steam then that's ok too. YOU must take responsibility for yourself and quit putting it onto others with excuses like the above.

And what about all the "children"? I mean there are a lot of people, who simply can't do this, they don't decide anything, they just are hurt by the actions of others...

Young children do not have their rational thinking capacities developed and so can be hurt emotionally IMO.

The adult may decide one way or another. This is self evident when you watch dissimilar reactions to the same event by different people. Most adults are so unskillful that they believe they do not have a choice.
