I understand your point in a general way, but how can a crystal aid in meditation? Personal power originates within the self and cannot be absorbed from a crystal. In traditional shamanic cultures crystals were used to absorb negative energy in purification rituals during a healing or before a sacred ceremony. They were rubbed over the body or an area and then rinsed thoroughly in moving water to disperse the energy they had absorbed...much in the way that Tibetan sand paintings are used. I guess they could be used a a focus point for vision, but so could any object. I agree there is value in belief, but, really, focusing on the breath is much simpler.

I remember much of the nonsense I have tried and still often try, but this is why I offer a short cut. If I can distill my experience down for someone else my desire is to simplify and make things more accessible. Having paraphernalia...while it may be aesthetically pleasing...requires resources, but all one really needs is the self and time. I have meditated off and on for the last 10 years and for the last 3 years solid, and I am trying to offer no-bullshit practical advice. Here, by the way, is an interesting book on the subject.

No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

but how can a crystal aid in meditation? Same way a candle can (focus as you said) Or just a reminder in your pocket throughout the day , whenever you feel it, to do a walking meditation or endevor to be present. Or any other way one wants.

Again, Not everyone is ready for a shortcut. Many feel a sense of ritual is important to their practice. So be it. There was a time when I did also and there is still a place for it (however small) in my practice. A good teacher remembers all the steps, pitfalls, frustrations etc of his own learning. Most do not and try to teach the short cut (with good intentions) it's just that most cannot do it. They need the process and the time and the blind alleys. It's part of the learning process. Otherwise one book, one author, one style would be enough for everyone.

I agree with the spirit of what you say, and I don't have the desire to argue my point with much passion, but I really hate seeing folks pay money to new age stores for garbage that has been advertised as power objects. I guess if the the consumer...uh I mean seeker...really values that stuff they are welcome to it of course. In the end no magical object will do it for you...all the magic is inside.

All inside, so true. I really didn't know what that meant until my 50s. Had you told me all this when I was in my 20s I wouldn't have got it until my 50s; saving me all that wasted time.

i bought some orgonite stuff 15 months back to "aid" me in meditation and protect me from "evil influences"...

it didn't work. the only thing that works for me is meditation, and after meditation the meditation continues 24/7...

i know two people who claim to benefit from using crystals but, they don't meditate and their magic doesn't seem to benefit them at all.
they are lost in ego-land.
