Meditation experience (need help)
    #6616449 -

Ok, i've been getting into the roll of meditation recently a lot. Trying it daily. I went a purchased a Amethyst crystal (necklace) supposed to help with meditation. (got it more for a symbol than anyhthing) But I tried it, holding it in my hands during meditation.

Now... I hit a meditave state thats for sure, it starts with my face tingling, and I cant move my facial muscles, then hands (where I was holding the crystal) were buzzing intensly (almost a muscle falling asleep type feeling, but slightly different)then it went up my arms, filled my chest, them my stomach got it, and started "contracting" like sucking inwards with each inhale, and the buzzing (energy???) kept getting more and more intense. Then I hit the point where my whole body felt like this, but then my father rudely knocked on my door for something unimportant, and it knocked my out of my meditation, but it was hard for me to talk, move or anything, my hands where I was holding the crystal were like... in paralysis I could move them, but I felt an INTENSE force surrounding them, and when I'd move them, they'd go back to the way they were when I was meditating, this buzzing and paralysis lasted for about 15 minuites before it started to dissapate.

It was almost like my muscles were tensing, but I wasnt physically interfering with them.

But yeah, is this normal? is this a good sign? does this mean I'm doing the right things?

Thanks for anyones imput. Perhaps this is normal and I'm just a n00b. either way, I'd like to know the cause.

Thankyou very much for putting your time into reading my post.

the zen guys usually get up and switch to 5 mins walking meditation every 20 minutes or so, muscles will seize when holding a new position.
the shaking partly is from concentration energy aka joy.

you can move the beads one at a time if you want to work your hands a bit I like to use ~3 seconds approximately per bead.

I believe he means a mala.
These are used to count breaths, mantras etc. The eastern equivalent of a rosary basically.

Wow, this helped me a lot this afternoon. I feel like I reached a very deep place of calm that I rarely am able to. At points my hands and legs started to feel very strange, almost ethereal. I was in shavasana (corpse position) and at one point felt as if the ground my head was lying on disappeared and I was floating in space. I feel incredibly relaxed and rejuvenated. I particularly like how he discusses the fact that there is no end to meditation at the end of the recording, that rang true to me and still does. I am still there and I will always be there (here). Thank you very much!

Lose the crystals and focus on the breathing.

Using crystals. [Re: Huehuecoyotl]
    #6617817 -

I've been getting into meditation lately too. What you describe is very normal from what I understand. Since you are so new at the practice, I'd imagine it means you are at a place of particular receptivity to the flow of energy right now, or you have a very strong energy. What an exciting experience! I am going to get out my crystals right now!!!

BTW I've used crystals in proximity to growth chambers and in with plants, and I think it helps focus positve energy to their growth. I have two quartz balls (a rose and a clear) and a handful of assorted smooth gem and mineral pebbles that I arranged in a little altar around a rhutilated quartz in the center.

You should be sure you cleanse the energy of your quartz from time to time to get rid of the negative build up. It is best to do this in the sunshine for a few hours or in a clean, natural flow of water. I often do it under the tap and just focus my energy on the negative flowing out as the water runs ofer it.

This site has a great selection of really beautiful crystals, and a very helpful reference library on a number of crystal and spirituality related topics http://www.wehug.com/article-index.html

I know they also make big massage wands that can also be used for meditation. They look sort of like dildoes, but I imagine they're pretty powerful haha!

A good link. [Re: greengrrl]

This site talks about many different ways to use crystals in meditation and healing. It also says you should do a grounding exercise (a good idea) and if you start to feel "spaced out or ungrounded" put a hematite stone next to you on the ground.

the things of value are things you can find anywhere especially within yourself.

I agree that the crystals are an unnecessary extra thing
but so is a mantra.

this does not mean you should not use it,
but when it comes to important aspects, and chosing your teacher, well, if the teacher is all about crystals or other products, maybe they are really sales reps from another planet.

It looks like they sell crystals too...how convenient. All that you need is, as redgreenvines said, already within. Just worry about your focus and your presence of mind. They are free and you can save money on the crystals.

Go out and find a crystal. Make it a quest. Consider it a power object and invest your concentration in it. It might help at the start.

Going out to find a crystal might be a worthy task in order to be outside in nature, but as a meditational aid one would receive little help. One would be best served by focus and discipline to aid meditation. Putting energy and concentration into into existing in the moment is the best investment for this task without a doubt.

Not everyone is ready for that and aids are sometimes (read Castaneda on this);) needed. I usually agree with what you have to say but often feel you have forgotten the steps you used to get to that place.

every ring is magic and every rock is alive,
things around you can be used to help steer you back to the middle way that you practice during meditation
