um, nasty?
    #6562163 -

I couple weeks ago I bought a _used_ ultrasonic humidifier online for use in my bedroom and whatnot.

Because you just don't know who you're buying from when you buy used I decided to run the first gallon tank full in the bedroom as a test run with about 2oz of H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) to try to clean out any internal contaminates within the tank, etc.

Take a look at the picture below, after the tank was empty, this is what the reservoir looked like. You probably can't make it out in the image but within the water is what looks like cloud formations within the water.

As for the green, I don't know. Maybe the previous owner used some crap assed additives to their water and it did this? Perhaps the H2O2 did a number on the demineralization cartridge within the device? Or maybe, horribly, it's some nasty as contam that has migrated from the previous owners house to mine, now that i've just blown all of that around my bedroom for the last two days.

Ewwww....

Comments, feedback, suggestions most welcome.

(on the bright side though, at least I found this out before it became a part of a FC, you know?)

Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.

Did the resulting solution have an offensive odor?

No, no offensive odor that I can recall, and when dried it looks like a thin bright green film on the sides...  I can post another image if you'd like but I am under if it will help or not.

A real bummer would be if it was one of the many retail humidifier additives you can buy to keep them bacteria / fungal free because out of fear of standing water and all.

That would significantly suck since it's becoming rather dubious if i'll be able to remove it 100%.  I'm going to try replacing the demineralization unit within it and running it again to see if that helps.

p.s. - do let me know if you think that posting the "dried up" pic would be of any assistance.
