H2O2 Sterilizing

hi, 2 out of the 3 times ive inoculated and done the whole proces ive gotten ALOT of contams, so im really intrested in knowing how to clean the wqhole work area plus the jars and everything , so i was wondering if its posible that by spraying everything with h2o2 it will be contam free at least for the time while im working , and also wanted to know if the h2o2 harms de mycelium or any of the shroom related stuff

From my knowledge H2O2 usually harms bacterias and the mycelium, and it doesn't necessarly kills it. Have you tried spraying Lysol in the area your are working on? how about a glove box?

use a more powerful surface sterilizer like lysol for tabletops, etc. spray the air with Oust. H202 doesn't adversly affect mycelium if it isn't too strong, the usual diluted h202 solution should be good enough to sterilize the insides of jars, utensils, containers, etc where growing substrate will come in contact. if myceila is introduced to a fairly high h202 enviroment it will slow down growth and adjust to the changed conditions, so again, use a diluted solution.

h2o2 is great at keeping down the nasties, but as soochi says it won't take out established contams. I use about 5ml of 3% h2o2 in a liter of water.

h2o2 will kill spores, but you can add it (best diluted and sprayed on) after the spores have germinated and mycelium is visible

I wipe work areas with those lysol towelettes and sometimes the cholox towelettes. I then spray everything with 91%ISA. I only use the H202 to mix in small amounts w/h20 to keep it contaim free for misting and in the bottom of the growth chamber.
remember to flame sterilize the syringe and wipe with alcohol. I once got some contams from not wiping the syringe all the way up to the plastic part. You could see the mold grow from the top of the innoculation points.

uhmm , ok , the only problem is that where i live they dont sell lysol , or at least not with that name , so im wondering about an equivalent do you know anything like it?

I use surgical spirit on a paper towel to wipe down my work area, seems to work. I pressure cook the jars for 70mins (I use rye grain)

dude just mix some isoprophyl alcohol w/ water in a spray bottle and there you go. and either check you kitchen for a flow hood or get a hepa, or both

I would use rubbing alcohol for wiping shit down and spray the air with lysol....I've had very good success with this mix....i also agree with soochi and psilomonkey concerning h202...its a great preventitive but it won't do much once you got a contam

For the sanitization of surfaces and working areas, use straight isopropyl alcohol or a good strong bleach solution.

You can also use lysol, but I fucking hate lysol.  :wink:
