H2O2, Dettol-Lysol and other weird thoughts...

Hello again - this is the weird guy from the hot city [over 30C in shadows lol]
Well i have read somewhere that the use of H2O2 in contaminated jars can kill the infected area while not harming the mycelium itself. I cant recall where did i read that, so it may be one of the things that i usually see in my dreams @ night and then think i have read them lol lol anyway, if anyone knows, that would be cool.
The following thinking applies to H2O2 or Dettol-Lysol, the known strong disinfectant. Have anyone tried to see if it is strong enough to kill spores or mycelium? I was thinking that stupid idea of using inside the jars some water solution of dettol or lysol. If that do not harm the spores or mycelium, it could be a stop sign for bacteria. Dettol or lysol evaporates in a couple of days, so it will prevent from bacteria formation the first days that the spores havent yet give birth to anything. If that method works, we could even omit sterilization in pressure cans!
I know I am a loooooney guy. Thank God we do have Anno in this forum and he is so cool to answer all my weird theories and thoughts
have a nice day all of you guyz,
peace on planet mushroom,

I had thought of something like that also. i thought I would use H2O2 since it just becomes water later.....maybe using a higher concentration then is available at stores. perhaps you can get 25% H2O2 and higher at beauty supply stores. The problem I see with the lysol is the fact that the lysol will be absorbed into the vermiculite of a cake. I think that the H2O2 would be better cuz even if it were in the vermiculite, it would lose its properties anyway.

i am at the moment too amateur to experiment like that, but yeah, it may have some sense... i think i wll create a small jar of 50% rye and 50% H2O2. No sterilization. As long as the h2o2 works, nothin can grow. But when it will become water and if jar is closed tightly with a hole with polyfill, the clean rye inside may be the food for the mycelium to grow.
we will see in the near future, my friend!

Lysol will kill spores/mycellium. h202 works good in small amounts. Then some other things:
1. Lysol kills 99.9% of bacterial..so technically it doesn't kill everything.
2.I sure as well would not want to be eating lysol smelling mushrooms let alone lysol in them.
3. The lysol wouln't be able to penetrate all of the verm etc to 'kill everything'
4.What is a Disinfectant? A substance destroying the growth of microorganisms. Disinfectant products are often effective against the full spectrum of germs, including bacteria, viruses and fungi
Keep it simple! Makes life a lot easier. I'd just say stick to pressure cooking. Guranteed and it wont smell like Lysol Fresh
But hey...im not naggin on the question..good question! Just giving my thoughts.

my shroomed e-friend goolag,
as you already know i am soooo f**** amateur that i cant YET cultivate a SINGLE shroom but hey - THERE IS SIGN OF MYCELIUM GROWTH IN MY CAKE !!!! <-true happiness
anyway
you are probably right. it seems logical that the use of h2o2 instead of water cant replace the sterilization process of a pressure cooker... its logical to assume that. i will think of something weird and will bother your mind again

hey i was wonderin at what concentration it will effect my grow, the bottle i use for misting used to be a dettoll or similar thing, i washed it numerous times and spent hours cleaning it out, yet occasionally when i spray them i can smell it(i must add i drank from the bottle before using it on my grow to see if i could taste anything but water... i couldnt... but it still smells of dettol... u think it will be detremental?

Leave h2o2 alone. It's only real use is for cobweb, and cobweb seems relatively rare these days. H2o2 when exposed to air and mostly light breaks apart to hydrogen and oxygen and becomes harmless, so using an old bottle should be fine.

start over and do things the right way when you see contamination in your jars. Some people try to re-sterilize their jars at the first sign of contamination. This even has limited success and is not recommended.
