Quote:
But if anyone should apologize, Mr. Kerry said, it is President Bush and his administration officials who started the ill-conceived war. He said his remarks, which he conceded were part of a “botched joke,” had been distorted and called the criticism directed at him the work of “assorted right-wing nut jobs and right-wing talk show hosts.”

“If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they’re crazy,” Mr. Kerry said in a statement. “I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.”

“I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed-suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh, who no doubt today will take a break from belittling Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease to start lying about me just as they have lied about Iraq,” Mr. Kerry went on. “It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have.”

At a televised news conference today in Seattle, Mr. Kerry said he was “disgusted” by the Republican attacks, which he noted were coming at the end of a bloody month in Iraq. “Sadly, this is the best this administration can do,” he said.

“No Democrat will be bullied by an administration that has a cut-and-run policy in Afghanistan and a stand-still-and-lose strategy in Iraq,” he said in his statement. At his news conference, he accused Republicans of creating “straw men” because “they’re afraid to debate real men.”

I dont think he will. He will offer a clarification of what he tried to say (which, if you think about it, makes some sense) but as far as apologizing for saying that, he will not. And I hope he doesnt.

I hope he doesn't apologize, that quote is comedy gold!

Too bad no one else see's the humor in an essentially true, yet cynical statement

This is great! If the Dems lose they are going to lay it at Kerrys feet...

that the "democrat spring" had to end before the election is no surprise...the surprise is that it would be john kerry that ended it...as such..kerry now shares as much of the blame for whatever the repugnicans do after they win the election...

What is there to apologize for?

Bush IS stupid for entering the Iraq war. Every non-partisan knows that!

This is the Non-issue of all non-issues and if Republicans believe this will save them they are sadly mistaken.
This non-story will be every bit as dead by tomorrow as your Halloween pumpkin.

yup. the real story is the 101 dead American troops in October. the only people who actually give a shit about what John Kerry said are those that want a distraction from the massive failure of Iraq.

personally, i joined the military because I fucked around in school and had no options. I don't see why he should apologize... it's a pretty true statement.

You have to be kidding me. Showing some balls is going to lose the democrat's election? C'mon. It's exactly what they need. It was not controversial, just true, and the majority of America will nod there heads in agreement. You think when Kerry said this it is more of blow to his party than when Bush stutters to answer a question, makes up a word (last week it was peninsulars,) and then ends up ignoring what the question all together? NO! What kerry said was smart, funny, and I agree, and I think the vast majority of us will on Nov. 7.

I wouldn't call what he said smart. It was a blunder. Perhaps a Feudian slip. It's not what he had planned to say, you all realize that right? Here was his prepared statement, according to his spokespeople:
“Do you know where you end up if you don’t study, if you aren’t smart, if you’re intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush.”

But this is what he said:
“You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

So what he planned was a swipe at Bush. But what he said ended up being potentially insulting to every troop in Iraq. You call that smart?

uh ohh... it's happened even sooner than I expected.

"I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended."

Between this and the Harry Reid thing, I'm on a roll. Alright, I'm gonna be bold. Second apology within 48 hours.
