The scene pretty much died out completely at the end of 1999. While there are stll enthusiasts who organize old school raves they just doesn't compare to the mid 90 once.

Huge raves, famous DJ:s from all around Europe, no cops, drugs by the kilogram, sex, original music, kinship. All gone :frown:

I've been to a few contemporary Raves and they feel so washed out. Emo kids with glow sticks. The kids still love it though.

I guess you had to have been there.

Here in Portland, there's a pretty cool psytrance scene, which I consider even better than raves.

Well, I'd rather enjoy what I have now then complain about not having what-once-was.

And, you want sex and drugs by the kilo? go to the closing circuit parties at the end of pride. I swear the Dancefloor at Aria felt more like a bath house then a dance club come 11am. People fucking in the middle of the dance floor, blow jobs in corners, etc.

I remeber stumbling around in a haze, comming across a circle of people who were standing around two guys just going at it full-tilt in the middle of the dancefloor, I went back to the chill out area, flopped next to my BF, looked over to my left and a girl was going down on some guy. Walked to get a drink, and sex of all sorts (hetere and homo) were going on.

Going upto the balcony area looking over the dancefloor and seeing bodies being surfed along the crowd (yeh, body surfing at a EDM event, go figure --- the things people do when looped out on too much GHB).

fun times :P

Nice!

When it comes down to it I'd say I went to my first rave for the drugs, stayed for the sluts, and learned to love the music and dancing.

The best was stumbling into the Astroarena (big fucking public building by the Astrodome where conventions were held) bathroom, rolling my ass off (for the first time too) and also tripping on like three hits of liquid, and wondering if I was accidentally in the women's restroom. No, apparently some very hot asian sluts were asking guys to show them their dicks, presumably looking for the one that was "just right".

Later on some random fucked up girl ran up to me and started making out with me. Presumably my neon fuscia hair was flashy enough to get a bite?

I mean, how's an 18 y/o RPG/martial arts nerd not gonna go crazy for that shit?

Yes, I could go drive somewhere everytime the urge to defecate hits, but...where's the fun in that.

The only raves I've been to are a few massive corporate ones like Nocturnal and EDC in LA. They were cool but not as much fun as I expected. Way too many cops and security, everything is too expensive and tightly regulated and the vibe is not there.

The thing I like about 'after-hours' clubs as opposed to normal clubs, is the sense of debauchry going on - and just the pure exessiveness of it. My 'ideal time' to show up at some clubs is at around 6:00am -- the light weights have gone home, and the people that are left are the hard heads, the people too high to go home, and then the people like me : who goto bed early, wake up at 4am and aim to be at the club for 5/6am --- there is just something about that vibe that I love SO fucken much. Its just so exessive, so un-needed --- but wow, great vibe, the tunes tend to be stellar (full on drugged-up music) -- the DJ knows that people are on their last legs so just keep pounding out the tunes that sound like a freight train to keep everyone moving.

Stumbling out of the club at 11am to a PACKED street (ie: China Town in Toronto), walking home pie-eyed knowing that the people around you have just woken up and getting their days started.

the LA rave scene isn't dead. there's atleast 2-3 parties on friday and saturdays. i just went to one last night. ghetto warehouse in the ghetto of LA. had a great time, sober.

the massive ones are fun, but yeah there's too many cops and security. it's all about the forest raves they throw out in the san fernando valley.

I often think back to my high school days during 98'-00' and reminisce about all of the raves I went to. I lived outside of Detroit so there was quite a scene here at that time. Getting a stack of
fliers at every rave, with nothing more than a phone number to call on the night of the party. Intentionally obscure directions to an isolated empty warehouse in the industrial sprawl of Detroit,
yet somehow always full of people. My first two acid trips were a result of frequenting raves.

Although I didn't really appreciate them at the time, I realize now how unique the experience and atmosphere was at these parties(spare the random asshole you might run into). Is there anything left
of this once thriving culture, or has the flame burned out?

have you been to ravelinks.com ?? they have a forum for raves in ur area..
