"Markos, I am very aware of what you are working on. Being the same age as you I know and am aware that death is stalking me."

Age is a poor way to judge the proximity of death. Death hunts all of us and closely. It could call at any moment of any day without prejudice for age or health. Forming a relationship with ones own death is work that all should undertake no matter what their age.

No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

My suggestion when confronting the fear of death is to bring total awareness to the fact that dying is your destiny just as being born into this plane of existence was also your destiny. The more you understand what you are facing the easier to accept something for what it is. Just surrender to it.

Philosophically, I have considered that Entheogens temporarily eliminate obstacles that prevent Mind from Knowing Itself - locally. This is a Buddhist idea, but I tend to see it this way. The Ultimate Condition is one of Self-Realization - Mind Knowing Itself as Infinite and Eternal, independently from the historical apparatus of the mind-body and its sensations, memories, feelings, thoughts, etc. The Clear Light of the Void in Buddhism, Nirguna Brahman in high Hindu thought, the "Superessential Godhead" in Christian Neoplatonic theology, Ain Sof Aur in Jewish Kabbalism, etc. all suggest an aspect of Self-Aware Superconsciousness that human beings 'recognize' as their True Self, their Creator or Source of being.

It is not, as you rightly say, comperhensible to our intellects - the Ultimate Condition. There is recognition, communion or union with THAT which has always been present to us, though veiled by our moment-to-moment attachment to our senses, thoughts, feeling, etc. This Self-Realization is more like a union of 'will' rather than of intellect. Huge medieval philosophical arguments were based on the primacy of will over intellect as our essential nature, and vice versa. Jesus says "I and my Father are one," and this is usually interpreted as being a statement about Jesus being absolutely unique (which then doesn't help us ordinary human beings), but a Gnostic understanding is one that gets that what Jesus is saying about His nature is true for ALL of us. He is the Archetype of Humankind, Adam Kadmon - Cosmic Human..............

Beautiful post Markos, thankyou for sharing.

I agree it is a poor way to judge the proximity of death. But it has been my reality. When I was young I thought of death in very abstract terms. With age this seems to be changing.

There seems to be more to it than just the mental awareness of what you say. I have known all of this for a long time. Yet death still seems somewhat abstract to me. Still, I am working on what you suggest and there does seem to be a small crack where some light gets in.
