I've never bitched about mods, but IMO that was definitely a mod power trip.

It was going nowhere. Everyone was posting about how they thought he should have actually posted something, which isn't a spiritual or philosophical topic in itself. :grin:

I clearly stated that, as soon as Deviate is ready to bring something that can be discussed to the thread, it would be unlocked for him to do so. In the meantime, there was no reason to leave it open, as there was nothing to be discussed. I even included some questions whose answers would have made a topic for discussion.

So, let's review: someone made a post in P&S that was one sentence long and its only relevance to the forum's purpose is that it used the word "Hinduism", a couple of posters comment that the thread has no idea or perspective to discuss, and then I lock it under the condition that it will be unlocked when the original poster is ready to contribute some content to the thread.

I'm not sure, seems pretty reasonable to me. Certainly not a big deal, definitely not something to feel all powerful and mighty over. :lol: To be honest, I'm not sure exactly why Gomp felt the need to bring it up, but I do appreciate that he took his time to express any concerns that he might have had - feedback truly helps. :cool:

Yes, I read your response. I just thought it was kind of extreme to lock it and then have him have to plead his case, as if some example had to be made out of someone making a decidedly useless post.

Maybe he had his interest piqued by his tiny brush with Hindu, and, knowing nothing about it, posted that limp sentence hoping to incite a discussion.  Who knows? It just seems to me like you were quick to bring the hammer down.  If it was going nowhere, it would have sunk in no time.

Whatever, it isn't a big deal, it just seemed a bit arbitrary to me at the time.

I never asked or implied that he would have to plead his case. The thread was off-topic, so it was locked. If he is interested in discussing something, then it will be unlocked for him to do so. It sounds more like an example in logic than anything else. :tongue:

Exactly. Who knows? Apparently not the posters who were eager to discuss something. :grin: It is the responsibility of the original poster to provide a topic for discussion, and that he is taking some class in college, on its own, is more suitable for The Pub. If he wants me to move the thread there, I could do that as well. Who knows? :wink:

When you get right down to it, the thread was not suitable for the forum it was posted in on its own as it stood. The only discussion that was being carried out was concerning its lack of topic, and if Gomp had made the reply that he was intending to if it had not been locked, it would have been more ready for The Pub than it was already. :grin:

I'm surprised that it would be proposed that such an action is "mod abuse" and clearly an example of a moderator power trip. :confused:

The thread had no quality or substance to it. If he wants to elaborate, can't he do so in a new thread? That thread looks like something that belongs in a chat room since it is so brief.

Threads like that just push high quality posts off of the page, that much time and effort was put into. They also usually get bumped often with useless responses or people bitching to the thread starter for making a crappy post.

This happens in the hunting forum for example, a lot. I get rid of threads with people posting some crap like "hey is the weather good for hunting now?" (it's against the rules in there anyway).
