the name changes are temporarily confusing. much less confusing than life and drugs though and it's a fun puzzle to solve. i see no reason to about the changes.

I am strongly against these name changes for the following reasons:

I think it's all in good fun and has really refreshed thing around here lately. I understand if people don't want their name changed, but if the Admins are willing, why not allow people to have their name changed? I don't see the crisis in all of this. I like my name, and will keep it out of tradition, but the name changes have been a riot (in a good way) in the past couple of weeks.
Kudos to the Admins who are having a fun time and actually enjoying themselves around here!

I simply think that this should have been implemented a long time ago. If Swami was allowed to change his name once a week, no one would have been able to accumulate the offense that they took agansit him.
In other words, no way to hold grudges agansit him for so fucking long, because there wouldn't be a singular, concrete identity to rally agansit!
This all revolves around identity. A certain amount of consistency in identity is required here in order for the boards to function as they are intended to. Personally, I think it should be far more restricted, but I really don't care what happens. Honestly, I think a lot of problems could be solved from losing all identity whatsoever, as the first portion of my post addressed.
Maybe we should all have a number, eh? Then those numbers could randomly change each day through some script. It'd be the same effect, right?
 Peace.

I'm willing to compromise.... reinstate Swami and you can change your name as frequently as you wish.
Seriously, though, I couldn't care less whether or not everyone changes their names all the time; I simply just noted that it does make some aspects of the forum experience a little more difficult.
Also, if I ever felt the need to change my name, I'd definitely want that oppurtunity to be available. Actually, the most reasonable compromise that I can envision is to restrict the amount of times one can change one's name within a specific amount of time, say, once every two months, or something to that effect. It might solve the confusion and still give the freedom to change one's name. Eh? Eh?
 Peace.

I don't think there's any question. It's too much fun to read/say/type.

I think it's pretty harmless. I'm sure there are instances where it's confusing, and sure, it can be called childish, but it's fun, so who cares?
To the people who are confused by it or think it's ruining everything, lighten up, and if you're that confused by the name changes, go to the person's profile and figure out who they are. Or, don't read their posts if it's that big of a deal to you
I do agree with the specific instance that was brought up though about the guy who was good at IDing mushrooms being named something ridiculous, I see how that could have a negative effect But it's HIS nick, and HIS choice I guess, so who is anyone else to say he can't change it?
I personally requested mine be changed because after becoming more familiar and comfortable on these boards, I felt that simply "Liz" suits my personality better than ifallapart. I don't care if people know my first name, thus the change.
So yeah, to summarize, people should settle down and know that this will die down eventually anyways, and just DEAL with it.
