nah, i dont want that kind of responsibility. dictator for a day sure, i'd change the laws i want changed, then appoint a president who agrees with the laws that i changed, then 4 years later let it be a democracy again.

Well prepare to not believe me. I'm not saying I wouldn't think about it, but ultimately, I think it would be wise not to. I'm frequently reminded of Jesus' last temptation in the desert. Satan offered him all the kingdoms of the world. Jesus could've taken the opportunity to seize political power and bring about his kingdom on earth. But he knew that God's kingdom was not of this world, and rejected the offer. We are all tempted to try and take control of the world, and mold it to our ideal, but we all lack the wisdom of God, and the more we try to control the world, the more it will slip out of control. Instead, we should seek out the Tao and follow it. So while I would certainly be tempted to become dictator, I like to think that I would turn it down.

you wouldn't have to lord over every single public policy, nor would it even by possible to. there'd be some degree of micromanagement by other officials, which could extend all the way up to something like the current establishment... maybe you could just let everything go as normal, only stepping in when you felt it necessary, averting wars, legalizing drugs, etc.

i wouldn't want to go through all the mundane drudgery of administering public policy, but i definitely think i could do a lot of good if i was in a position to cast the final yea or nay on policy issues of interest.

power gives you an enormous potential to influence things for the better.

Yes, but it would still leave you in the position of deciding who governs.

You should use this example and give it to the US gov't. and see how they feel about it, considering Bush is claiming God on our side and whatnot.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

It is, currently, a mostly Christian nation. However, it was not founded directly on Cristian principles, which so many conservative Christians claim. The founding fathers were a diverse bunch, with, I believe, at least one interested in some form of paganism, some Calvinists, some deists, etc.

Certainly.  I readily admit that I would be tempted to take such power, but I'm not so sure it would be such a good idea.
