information junkies
    #5104880 -

i feel like information is all i'm interested in... except that... its NOT!
i'd rather expiriance things but first i have to know everything i can about them.
sometimes it turns out i won't do stuff simply becouse i don't have the enough information about that! i don't feel safe doing stuff i know nothing about... i don't trust my self to manage anything out there befor i have some kind of predetermined consption about it!

anyone know what i'm talking about? anyone found a cure?

what's your favorite expiriances? (i like dancing.. but i do very little of that unfortunatly) except getting stoned/drugged and exchanging information with friends...

I know exactly what you're talking about, and no I've not found a cure. I'm an old fart by Shroomery standards (approaching 40) and while I place a high value on direct experience I can't rid myself of the need for prior information before taking a plunge. There's no daredevil in me but I don't sweat it, you are who you are and that's fine really.

As far as experiences go I'll mention one that I really love, it's hiking in the woods at night, preferably alone. No flashlight, just a walking stick. It can be unnerving at first and I wouldn't recommend doing it in unfamiliar terrain, but it is just a wonderful experience. If you can doing it a couple of times you'll want to do it more often and the experience is very psychedelic in and of itself.

yeah... i like walking in the dark as well... but unfortunatly i live in a city and i have no woods or natural spaces anywhere close...
i like walking in the gardens and diffrent paths betwine the main streets... it's really quite at night and i like thinking about all the people sleeping around me in the big buildings and maybe a few are watching some latenite TV...

i AM who i am though i want to be more... i know so much about the world but i get to expiriance so little of it! i have SO many options but i still do nothing... constantly in fear of wasting my time while always wasting my time making no choices... it's thrustrating!

i have the opposite.

i tend to read too much about stuff and then get scared to do it.

ignorance is bliss.

that's part of it too i guess... it's not really the opposit

sex for instance is calssic example for that!
we SEE sex we HEAR about sex we READ about it everywhere...
sex and DATING is such a coltural "issue"... we simply can't avoide it and most of the time we get all the wrong ideas about it too!

and let me be a little be alitist for a second... no wonder most of the smart educated people have so many social phobias (lot's of us over here on the shroomery do :smirk: )

and letting go of everything you've ever heard and starting fresh (or simply acting souly on your OWN expiriance) is SO GODAMN hard!!!
you KNOW that most of the stuff you've "learned" is total bullshit and yet it still remains a posibilety and that freaks you out when you're finelly faced with the situation...

i think the psychodelic expiriance teaches us alot about how to have a fresh viwe on everyday expiriance, at least it did for me...
it's a fleating realizetion though, very hard to hang on to after the trip.

I try to learn enough about something to keep me out of trouble before I dive in and do it. Unfortunately I always find I never know enough when I get there. But I have always found the best way to learn is to do it. I got some more good tips from a surfer out in the water this morning. I'm beginning to understand the ocean more, and it hasn't killed me yet. Little by little I'll gain the knowledge I need to do it well, I just have to be careful not to make any deadly mistakes along the way!

 i could say that about a few other people here at the shroomery (leery11 for example... he thinks just like i did about all sorts of things)

were we born at the same day or just on the same date?
i was born 1982 (the year of the aardvark?)
(i once met a girl who was born on the same day i did, it was crazy how we clicked :crazy2:)

I feel connected to leery11 as well, he seems to think and feel along the same lines as myself.

I was born in 1987, 3:15 in the morning.

I know what you mean, Simisu... I've been there my entire life, except it affects me in a different way: I've never not done something for lack of information, but once I do it, I want all the information that I can possibly get about it so that I don't look like a stupid assbag for getting off on something, but being completely ignorant about it... I guess my method is more experimentation until I find something I like, then studying the hell out of it!

Seems to work out okay for me
