I quite liked it, but hey what do I know. I'm sure the book is much better, books usually are. If you're a novice 3-gram tripper like myself, it can be quite claming and helpful. I got the feeling that it could be quite good if you were embarking on something like 10grams.

Of course I love it. I was released in 1966 or 1967 originally I think and was just re-released this year. Here's some quotes from the cd that I transcribed myself.....

[From Track/side one "Going Out"]

"You are now about to begin a great adventure. The journey out of your mind. You will travel far beyond familiar reality into the level of transcendent awareness. You will leave behind you, your beloved personality, which will be returned to you at the end of this voyage. The goal of this trip is ecstasy. To move outside the boundaries of normal perception and consciousness into the far reaches of your nervous system. "

"You must be ready to accept the possibility that there is an infinite range of awareness?s for which we now have no words. That awareness can expand beyond the range of your ego, your self, your familiar identity, beyond everything that you have learned. Beyond your notions of space and time. Beyond the differences that usually separate people from each other, and from the world around them."

"Wether you experience heaven or hell, remember that it is your mind which creates them. Avoid grasping the one or fleeing the other. You must maintain faith and trust in the potentiality of your own nervous system and the billion year old life process. With your ego left behind you, your brain can?t go wrong."

"Trust your divinity. Trust your brain. Trust your traveling companion. Whenever in doubt, turn off your mind, relax, float down stream."

"Maintain a calm, relaxed awareness keeping your body, feelings and intellect still like a quiet pool of water"(Metzner or Alpert)

"Adopt an attitude of joyess acceptance of anything that might occur. An affirmation of the energy process that will sweep you along. Eliminate any anger ill will or irritation that you may feel towards anyone because this will prevent letting go and tends to produce a negative experience. Instead, meditate on love and trust towards everyone especially your traveling companions on this journey."(Metzner or Alpert)

"There are three main stages in this voyage........"

"The first, and most profound, is called the experience of the clear light or the void. Here you merge completely with the basic energy process. There are no thoughts, no images, no hallucinations, no pleasure or fear. no ?I? to experience. The drop of water is merged in the ocean. There is energy, light, flow. The network of process. ?You? are gone. All boundaries..dissolved."

"The second and longest phase is called the period of hallucination. Of gaining visions and revelations. Part of your ego has reasserted itself. And a multitude of sounds, images, thoughts are created and dissipated at fantastic speed. Both heaven and hell, paradise or torture may be experienced. Both come from you."

"The third phase is that of ?reentry? or ?rebirth? or ?re-imprinting?, where your ego strives to return to the body to rebuild it?s familiar everyday reality."

"As you reach unimagined levels of awareness, try to remember these three phases and try to recognize where you are. Do not attempt to control or rationalize the experience. Let it flow and enjoy the process. You will be returning soon enough.......all too soon. There is plenty of time for figuring it all out later.Turn your attention to your body. Try to become conscious of every cell in your body."(Metzner or Alpert)

Quote:

[From Track/side two "Coming Back"]

"Be aware of the photographs you are taking now with your neurological camera. Do not expose yourself to distractions"

"You may feel that you have super normal powers; telepathy or clairvoyance. Do not make the mistake of thinking that these powers are yours through merit. They are merely the natural signs that you are in the re-entry phase. Recognize where you are. A Zen master said ?My greatest miracle is that when I feel hungry I eat, and when I feel thirsty I drink?"(Metzner or Alpert)

"Do not re-enter into your old robot out of fear. Do not rush back with a desire or a craving. Be detached. Choose your new self freely, consciously."

"You have five centers of conscious functioning. The thinking center will make it?s own new imprint. Your feeling center will make it?s own new imprint. Your moving(?) center will make it?s own new imprint. Your sexual center will make it?s own new imprint. Your instinctual center will make it?s own new imprint. The imprints you are now making will govern much of your life in the days to come. The imprints you are now making of other people will remain strong in the days to come."

"Try to remain high as long as possible. If you have started to come down already, try to regain the transcendence of the earlier most intense period. This will ensure a smooth gradual re-entry."

"A man dreams he was a butterfly. He woke up. He said ?Now I do not know weither I am a man who dreams he is a butterfly, or a butterfly who dreams he is a man?"

The book and CD are basically like hypnotism or aimed at the mind of someone who has an imagination that really does things.

What else is an imagination for?

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
Reality remains reality no matter how much we change our vantage point through a psychedelic.

The lesson I've learned from my studies is that 'reality' is not the same for everyone.

But, the majority of the experience is really just an intense speeding up of one's mind and heart, so that one is thinking much faster while not having his/her emotions subdued.

Maybe your experience, but I think that you're oversimplifying the 'mind' somewhat.

--------------------
The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".

In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience.

And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him.

"Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

I always thought Tim Leary was a God in terms of his reputation and his influence on the psychedelic movement.

After finishing the book "DESIGNER DYING", written by Tim during his battle with a fatal brain tumour, I have to say my opinion of his work has changed for the worse.

First of all, 90% of the book is complete and utter SHIT. I'm not sure if it's because of his debilitating condition or if he was in a rush to publish, but it reeks of foulness.

He goes so far off the deep end with everything in the book, not only does it remind me of sci-fi-- but BAD science fiction at that. With a lot of the subjects he discusses, he is simply PLAIN WRONG. Tim liked to think of himself as on the cutting edge of understanding technology, but his ideas are so far off what is currently possible, he is not a 'visionary' by any sense of the word-- he simply rambles on psycho-babble tangents with no foundation or merit.

If anyone has read any of Leary's other books, I'd like to hear input on them. I'll try not to judge my opinion of Leary based on this ONE book, but he better do a damn good job in some of his other works.
