So why is it that I would rather discuss street-corner philosophy with night-crawlers than discuss epistemology with Kant?

I spent three hours, doing the male-bonding thing with a pimp last night, and we talked about all kinds of shit, and even though we have radically different backgrounds, we both got along fucking great! He wants to introduce me to his homeys and his family, and we?re gonna go see Star Wars 2 this week (watch Mace Windu kick some serious clone ass!), and he?s gonna set me up with some broads -- off the fucking meter! It?s pretty fucking damn casual! :cool:

Why is this? Is it because I?ve spent the better part of my like trying to live out some kind of twisted Charles Bukowski, Tom Waits, Donald Fagan, kind of hepcat lifestyle? I enjoy smoky jazz clubs, loose women, sybaritic pleasures, and hard core dugs, much more than straight up theory! :crazy:

I don?t? have any idea why I am, the way I am, but I still don?t have any regrets. Maybe it?s just the romantic artist in me, that is attracted to this darker side. All I know, is that after 20+ years of racking up some hard miles, and shooting some mighty straight pool, that I can hang with the best of them? :crazy: :grin: :cool:

I dunno why I am posting this, just thinking out loud about some crossroads I guess, and  I'd rather go out like Robert Johnson than Socrates! :laugh:

I have learned a lot form  street wise hepcats Paps, thats why I stick 'round the Chill Room...its like that dive bar that rides the strip of Ave A , betwix 8th and 7th streets I used to flutter into when my other haunts closed up for the night - where the Artists and the Freaks and the Weekend chippers finailly end up after 3 am to play pool or darts, smoke a joint in the hall, and help put up the chairs at dawn-

in the east village where the strong booze and the scratchy tunes from the ancient jute box that still has 45's in it flow like water, you can find many a strange new friend right next to you. all you have to do it look past the curtian of smoke and bullshit. Nietcheze is way more palatable after a toke and a shot. :smirk: - OoD

Ugh, I met a pimp the other day, and I wanted to kick his fucking ass.  Maybe you're area has "cool" pimps or soemthing, I dunno.  Are the girls decent?  This guy's girls were sooooo fucking gross!  He was supposed to hook some dude up with some bud, but instead got into a fight with an old drunk lady.  Yeah, I got the HELL outta there.  That is one fucked up apartment building, I wanna kill my friend for moving there. 
In conclusion, tho my experience with actual pimps (as opposed to the jr. high kids with pimp shirts on) is limited, I fuckin hate em.  Like he DeNiro says in Casino, "Be a man, don't be a fuckin pimp."

I think it does everyone good to slum it once in a while(whatever form of slumming that may be) but that's a lot different than living that "slumming" as a lifestyle, personally i feel that an ocassional bout of drug induced stupor is rejuvenating(although i discovered in Buchaest recently that 3 straight weeks is a bit much*), for some people it's uninhibited/unrepresssed sexuality(for some, i'ts both :wink: ) as long as it doesn't get to the point of being physically/mentally debilitating and you have a less self destructive life to which to return, it's all good  :laugh: 

* even if that 3 weeks being "too much" meant that i really didn't want to leave  :grin:

I can see slumming it every now and then, but this guy's apartment building is hell.  I wouldn't be able to stand it if I was on heroin or crack or anything for that matter.  In fact, it would be nice to spend a couple weeks slummin it, but not in this town.  First this town has no night "scenes" at all, just crappy bars and smelly drunks.  It used to have subcultures, but all three of those are pretty much dead.  The punks, rockabilly greaser types, and skins.  There used to be ton of em.  Now I'm the only skin, and I'll see a greaser every now and then, but no punks left at all (that I've seen anyways).  It sucks.  Even if I was purposely slummin it here I'd have this empty, hopeless feeling I get whenever I'm here.  This town is bleak.  This town would be bleak even for junkies.  If you've been here, you know what I mean.  You'll get depressed just driving thru, looking at all the crappy sights.  I can't wait to fuckin move outta here!    :cool:

I guess what I'm trying to say is, that slumming it may be cool or rejuvinating, but it wouldn't be here.  The only people you'd be able to slum with are Mexican thugs that fuck even their own friends over all the time.  Not someone I'd want to be around while in some drug induced stupor.  I dunno.  Maybe when I move to Austin.  :wink:
