is birdseed and verm more likely, more susceptible to contamination than just brf and verm?

i don't think most people add verm to millet really.. but to answer your question yes it's harder to sterilize the insides of the grain.

i use hmf-which is birdseed,flax,and VERM-
yes its harder to sterlize and you need a pressure cooker-

thanks, thought it was the sterlisation process which was given me the contams.

Is there any way to sterilze the birdseed, without a pressure cooker?

will just using in a pan with boiling water (like in mmgg for brf and verm) work if i do for longer?

just a recomendation when using birdseed fuck the verm use straight seed... pure nutritional substrate is one of teh biggest advantages to using the seed... only you should use quart jars or pints... dont worry about moisture contetn as long as you use the right amoutn of water bird seed holds the water very good... and it doesnt contam easy if you let it soak overnight then PC for 70 minutes... just use common sense sterlie conditions when innoculating and you should be fine... but dont use verm its just a waste of space with birdseed... if your gonna do birdseed just go all they way its not ANY harder at all... you can get 12 quart jars for 5 bucks at wal mart and a bag of finch food for 4 bucks..

All the teks I have read mention Pennington's brand of wild finch seed as the best. I heven't been able to find it. Most places carry Kay Tee. It doesn't list any additives on the labeling. Think it's okay?
