TT's Plant and Cactus Pics 06 (renamed thread)
    #5906847 - 07/27/06 08:49 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Greetings and good tidings! I wanted to share pictures of my plants, mostly cacti but some other ethnos. This may take a few days, so it may come in stages, but this thread will be where my plants shine on! :rocket:

Firstly, the cactus seedlings. Two overview pictures:

Those are mostly year old Bridgesii and Tersheckii, with some other stuff in for decoration.
These are Trich. Bridgesii planted last July, and one with a thumb for  size:

Last picture for the day is something that came out of a mixed cacti packet, actually out of like 200 seeds, the only ones that survived were about 6 of these, and one little columnar cactus. Anyway, anyone know what it is called?

Okay, that's the upload limit for tonight. More to come soon! :stoned: :rasta:   :tongue2: :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun:

The bottom picture is an agave of some sort, there are lots of varieties of them so I can't be any more specific.

Thanks for the replies!
simisu- Yes, it is probably about time to give those babies a root space of their own,  but I may wait till next spring. They are doing great right now, no need to mess with with just yet...

Okay, more pics!!!!!

This is a cool shot of some mixed pots, there is a few Bridgesii on the left, planted late last year, and the right side is Terschekii planted early this year.

Many of these cactus seedlings you see in these pictures were germinated using plastic egg crates, the kind I buy Cage-Free Eggs in.
This is an egg crate filled with Lopho seedlings:) :

This is a Peruvianus, born in March 05. It has only 4 ribs, which I heard is rare...?...? I like it anyway, a sort of symmetry.

Here is a Myrtillo Geometrizans, which I recieved recently as a young cactus. It was quite healthy and immediately took to growing again. I have future grafting in mind, as I also purchased 100 seeds and have begin to germinate them.

My most recent purchase, from a grocery store chain for maybe 5 or 6 dollars, I really like the way the spikes form a geometric web, a very trippy cactus (also not sure of the name). Nonetheless, I think it's about to flower:

Okay, now for a picture of a Lopho I got in a trade, on of two mature specimens approx. 3 years of age (last year).

That's the stuff for tonite. I appreciate any questions or comments, input or suggestions. Thanks for tuning in. - TT :strokebeard:  :rasta:

Okay, round three of cactus pics. Y'all like cacti, right?
Here's a close-up of two Lopho's in the egg-crate:

And another in the egg-crate, this one looks a little sunburned (?), it's kinda got a reddish/purple tint to it.:

Here's one of my tall Pereskiopsis, it's definitely time to do something with this bad boy before it gets too top heavy and falls over...

Here's a Pedro I bought last year, and it had a kind rough winter. I tried to make it go dormant, but it kept growing, just very slowly and skinny. But it's beefing up now, enjoying the hot summer days and cool summer nights. Oh, and it's next to a Psychotria Viridis and a Peace Lily.

This is my favorite mature cactus of mine. It's a Pedro, and it's also doing real well this year:

Here's a grouping of the unknown cactus I planted from seed. Aren't they cool looking?

And last, but not least, is an Islander bell pepper plant, the peppers are very sweet, and go from purple to red to orange and all the spectrum in between. Love it!

Okay, that is all for today. I will start to put up my plant pics next. :peace: :sun:

Lookin' good!

I did the pepper thing this year too, and damn, they went nuts over the past couple weeks with all the rain! I now have more peppers than I will ever know what to do with

Any good pepper cooking ideas? Im thinking salsa and maybe some stuffed peppers.

Alright, where was I...? Oh yes, time for my plants! These are in no particular order.
Firstly, a Wild Dagga planted from seed that I received in the Ethno Seed Swap Thread. It is of the orange flower variety, so I'm excited to see it bloom. First time growing this. It is next to a Celosia, I beautiful flower I grow for decoration.

This is also my first time growing Rivea Corymbosa. This picture was taken a few days ago, and I've since given the vine a stick to climb up.

This is a Purple Basil next to a Psychotria Viridis. I've got several P. Viridis around, but until a month or two ago they had been indoor plants. Well, I never got their humidty right, so they always grew those crinkly leaves. Once I put them outside, though, they grow large, smooth, beautiful leaves because we in da South, where it's all about the humidity.

This is a new P. Viridis that I got from a simple leaf propogation. I hope to give it and it's sister as much outside time as possible.

Ummm, I just ran out of upload for tonite, but I happen to have a couple more cactus pics, so I'll share those. This first one is a cool little guy, probably $2.49 at Home Depot, brought him home and transplanted him, now he still looks pretty rough, but we have pups! My plan is to try and graft one of those pups onto a Pereskiopsis.

And this is a San Pedro I planted in the backyard, in the ground. It gets mostly full sun, and has a pretty decently fortified red clay soil.

That's it for now.  :smirk: Hopefully soon I will show you positive results from a current grafting project. But before that, more plants! So stay tuned for the next installment of ToolTroll's Terrestrial Treason.
:rocket:

Ebb - my current and most successful method is the egg crate. I put in them a mix of commercial cactus soil, sand, and perlite. I wet that down real good with a hand sprayer, till soil is saturated. Then put a couple seeds in each hole, sprinkle cery thin layer of sand on the top, then close it up and put it in ambient lighting, warm temperature. Within two weeks most of them should be up, depending on the cactus species. To water them I just squirt with a hand sprayer, and occasionally the end ones get dry first. Once they germinate, let the soil dry out between waterings. Transplant when larger...

Thanks, Calab. Here is a coleus, not sure if it's blumei cuz I guerilla cloned it from a neighbor. Prettty, though.

And another coleus, I like this one alot:

This is a tiny tomato plant, I think it's yellow canary or somesuch strain, alongside yet another P. Viridis plant.

Here is my mother Salvia, she is planted outdoors in an old tire rim, under partial shade. She was sick with spider mites before I brought here out here, but she is doing better and starting to grow faster.

This is not an ethno, but I love hanging baskets with this plant. I think it's a Striped Jew (?), but it's super easy to grow and looks awesome.

Speaking of awesome, these are my Elephant Ear's by the front porch. They are so big and elegant!

Okay, more pictures tommorrow.  :sun:

Hey, thanks Dark_Star!
Start with Celosia, one of my favorite non-ethnos.

Here is a close up of a real fluffy Celosia:

A shot of two related vines, the HBWR on the left was planted from seed last year, no flowers yet. On the right is some crazy morning glory, that has become "feral" after last year's fertile blooming and subsequent seeding...

Finally, here is my lone specimen of Stevia, a first for me. It's nice little herb that has very sweet, very sweet leaves. I hope it flowers.

That's all for today, I will post more soon, and maybe a couple people might care...  :smirk:

:peace: :mushroom2:

Here's a song for y'all to listen to.

I like your Celosia, in New Zealand they are commonly called "cockscomb",like the comb on top of a roosters head.I love that name  They also look great in full sun and feel even better-
And I care...if it makes ya feel better

Dety - thanks!
karode13, yes it does make me feel better.  :ashamed:  :rotfl: I am familiar with the name cockscomb, but I use that to refer to a particular variety of celosia, a tall, red one that totally does look like a rooster's comb. However, that seems to almost be a recessive trait, because I didn't get any of those this year.
