Wow thats crazy such a small stem supports all that growth. What would happen if you transplanted so the rootstock was underground so the grafted cacti can grow roots into the soil too. Then you have a doubble team on the roots and no need for the sticks.

So you just grow in straight rocks? How often do you water and fert? What kind of ferts do you feed em? I read once High N makes many pups, can you confirm this?

I have another question, does pereskia work as well as pereskiopsis? What about other varieties of pereskiopsis besides the spathulata or however you spell it?

Perhaps, but it's growing fast enough on it's own...

No that's just the pot dressing. Beneath is a mixture of coco coir, perlite and vermiculite. I just feed them 'normal' cactus low-N fertiliser everytime i water  (at a low concentration of course)...

Ok here's a picture for you

These are some of my stock plants i use for taking cuttings..I don't think you can easily buy the plant except from  growers. Don't expect to find it in a garden center. They have little value except for doing seedling grafts on. They are not beautiful plants and they have very nasty glochids which will stick into you skin. Very important: it's not a succulent but a true cactus!

I've read from people that had success with it, but i've never tried it myself. Other varieties of Perekiopsis will probably work. In fact i'm using two different species now. One is spathulatha the other one i don't know. It's the plant in the right bottom of the photo. It's got bigger leaves and more wool. Seedlings seem to grow even faster on this one.

Here's one extra pic for you, it's a Trichocereus seedling grafted one week ago. The seedling is only 4 mm wide!

This plant was grafted as a few weeks old seedling, 7 months ago. Growth has been phenomenal. Normally Tr. pachanoi doesn't branch, but this one certainly does. It has not been topped, the largest branch is the main stem, the rest are pups.
I took these images just before i chopped off all branches and it's now sprouting more than 12 new pups!
These plants could provide for more than 20 new rootstocks for grafting each year.

Here's an unrelated pic of some recently aquired Penis plant cuttings (tr bridgesii monstrosus).

Definately a worthy bump, if this pic was bigger I would have a new wallpaper.

Ya I wish he was around more. I guess his business and hobbies consume him. He is the busy sort. Check out his other posts. At least his voice still lives on in them around here.. Tissue culture and all sorts of grafts and goodies.

I just wish he would come off of the tissue culture agar recipe for cactus...

Dubious compound

it is dangerous to be right in matters on which the established authorities are wrong.
