Panaeolus and Copelandias - questions.

Is Panaeolus synonymous with Copelandia? Is Panaeolus Cyanescens the same as Copelandia Cyanescens? Is there such a thing as Copelandia subbalteatus? Can you spell "Copelandia" as "Coplandia"? Am I way off here? Simple, "Yes, No, Yes, No - whatever" reply will do for that bit! The other thing is pronounciation. I pronounce "Psilocybe" as "sil-o-sibe", but I've heard it pronounced "sigh-lo-sibe" as well. I'm assuming both are correct. Is "Copelania" pronounced, "Cope-land-ee-a"? How is "Panaeolus" pronounced? What about "subbalteatus" Sorry about the billion and one questions, just have a curious mind, I guess.

Panaeolus cyanescens and Copelandia cyanescens are the same mushroom following two distinct taxonomic pathways. Co-pel-landia cyan-escens is how it is pronounced. Pan-a-0-lus sub-bal-te-at-us Pan as in Pan. A as in a. bal as in ball at as in at and us as in us. Pil as in sill, los as in Las vegas, sib as in sibling and be as in be sil-las-sib-bee. Also Copleandia species (all 13 of them) can be found in the tropics and neotropics of both hemispheres. Originally reported from Ceylon which is now Sri Lanka. They can be found from Asurralia and New zealand to the Solomon Islands, India SOutheast Asia, California Washington, Florida, Mesico, centeral and SOuth America, Africa, Southern Europe (including southern France to Italy and north to Switzerland and south to Africa and the Caribbean. And there are also 9 species of Panaeolus world wide which also contain psilocine and/or psilocybine. mj

That is how english native speakers pronounce latin names. You make it sound like english. I noticed that this has became a sort of rule even for scientists and doctors. However in real latin Psilocybe should be pronounced something like this: Ps ... Both letters in Ps should be pronounced (like in psalm) i ... like "e" lo ... like in low c ... ts .... Like in Stamets y ... like "e" be ... like in begin

I found some links about latin pronounciation: http://www.unidial.com/~martinus/thesaurus/Pronunciation_Guide.html http://csssrvr.entnem.ufl.edu/~jhf/kiss10.htm This has also wavs: http://www.utexas.edu/courses/cc303/sounds/sounds.html I found out that there are differences in pronunciation of C before ae, e, oe, i: I said that it should be pronounced "ts" while these guides claim that it should be "ch". I asked some friends about it and they said it's the difference between classic and modern style. "ts" is classic while "ch" is modern - like in todays italian.
