explaining things- one of my biggest problems

example number one... this post

its hard for me to explain things in a detailed or complex manner.i don't have a vocabulary of big words to express myself. when I'm in a social environment, i tend to keep quiet because i don't know what to say. this is a big problem for me and i don't know any way around it. i have taken a good year or so off of school so this is one reason for my lack of words.smoking is definitely another contributer to the problem. at this point of my life, pot is one of the few ways of enjoyment, so i don't plan on quiting anytime soon.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

you don't have to know big words to express yourself. Most people don't know how to either a)express themselves in a way which satisfies them/delivers the message, or b)express themselves at all.

You don't know what to say? Or you don't have anything to say?

The latter is how I am, usually.

First lesson: It is one of your biggest oppurtunities, not one of your biggest problems. :wink:

I would personally suggest that you frequent this forum often, and make a point of attempting to express yourself. Others will question and participate, and the practice you will have will be quite beneficial. It is simply just something that you need to work on developing.

Also, for myself personally, smoking marijuana assists my ability to express myself. Usually, the heightened sense of awareness will enable me to better illustrate what I am conveying. Unfortunately, it has been awhile since I have been all  :stoned:  :frown:

i too find marijuana assists greatly in writing but only when done in moderation.

i haven't been able to express myself well at all lately. not enough exercise... too lethargic, indoor air nasty energy drain me...

icky sticky what have you who knows.

but anything you do is expression so just start typing dude. start typing until you get really good at it to where you can auto-flow everything that you are typing without making mistakes in fact maybe let the mistakes stay

type like a really long paragraph about anything at all that is on your mind and even if you don't think anything is on your mind type anyway.

this replicates being stoned while sober because eventually you know what you are going to type several words or sentences before you even type it so that you can lurk ahead. when lurking ahead it produces a sort of meditative or stoned state, stretching the present moment out some.

do you think i know how i'm doing this? Well I mean it's just an activity... I am expressing... is it good or bad.... quality or poor? am I using big words? Not really but does it matter? Yes it is good. No it is not good.... that's irrelevant. it doesn't matter.

i am making spaces for words to go and i am putting the words there, and that is all you have to do.

i have not gone back and revised one single thing and am trying to deliberately keep it so that no typso come up but if they do i leave them alone. i see i just made one called "typso" so see what I mean?

Youi can learn the skill of auto-typing very asy (and interjection made present, here are a few more typos to see)

and you can either hit and fiddle with the delete key to keep things correct while they manifest (but this slows down the flow) or whatever. but the goal is to just have a flow.

and I promise you, you have a flow. Do you know how to type officially, using all fingers? Do you know how to do that? Because that is the best way to be able to express yourself. It's also kind of fun to learn.

If you do just post a lot. Read a thread... and when you read on a thread here and it catches your interest just go "hey I have something to say" and just say it....... you'll get better at better at self expression.

also read my signature!

its easy to make yourself feel stupid (especially with weed) and once you convince yourself you aren't good at something, you pretty much become a self-fulfilling prophecy. but man you and anyone else on these boards is capable of great self expression....

cut back on the marijuana if you think it is making you worse. and use it if you think it is making you ebtter. but don't get stuck in a pattern where each time you hit the pipe you think "I shouldn't be doing this" but you say "oh well it's fun" don't do that ever....

that's addiction.

cannabis is a great tool. if you take a break and come back to it with respect (let's say 2 weeks would be a good break if you are a regular smoker) you will learn a lot from it and it can be used as a psychedelic even.

for me it helps me think clearly about what i want to write but I know the feeling of it burning you out too.

so just go with it. if you think you need to stop, stop. even if it hurts you to stop. that's just an illusion. just a weak mental habit that needs to be broken. just laugh at the addiction and watch it vanish (because pot isn't THAT addictive it's just a huge HABIT)

if you think you can still do it then do it. just think real carefully about it. use weed to enhance your thoughts, not dull them.

thanks for the input,It really helped. i am aware that when i tell myself I'm bad at something, it is a self fulfilling prophecy. but feel that it is an obstacle to go over. at this point of my life, its hard to not smoke up. I'm trying my very best to stop though. i even know how i can quit... but that leads to other obstacles that i need to overcome. its a viscous cycle

words are fun to play with and to string together and twist into fancy knots; but words don't explain anything.
verbal points of view are most confusing,as they can only begin to suggest someone's experiences.
put your mind into what is happenning and keep it there until you havea good sense of your surrounds and insides. then when you make a few comments that suggest your position, they will be consistent, never fully explanatory.
good luck with it & go back to skule.
