I wonder how long it will be before someone makes a movie about the flooding of New Orleans

Comparing a natural disaster to a willful and vicious act that targeted innocent civilians is like comparing apples and oranges.

Are deaths in natural disasters less tragic? Was it okay to make 3 Kings, that movie about the first Iraq war?

People make movies based on real murders all the time anyways. 9/11 generated a deep sadness in you. The tsunamis created a LOT of sadness in people who didn't have much of any strong emotional reaction to 9/11.

And looner, 9/11 wasn't a patriotic event, the reactions of many of the citizens of the US were patriotic. I know you disagree with Stone for being against patriotism, but that means that only people who share your opinon would find the film to be an "insult". To people with a different point of view, a film that focuses more on being patriotic than neutral and realistic would be an insult. You can't deem your own subjective opinion to be the moral guidlines by which our art must follow.

A natural disaster is easier for me to stomach. It is easier to understand and it is easier to deal with mentally and emotionally.

Here's an analogy:

Natural Disaster = Punch to the face
Malicious act by fellow human beings = Kick to the balls

It hurts to get punched in the face. You might even get a black eye or a broken nose. But, odds are that you will stay standing and keep your wits about you. It REALLY hurts to get kicked in the balls. If you get kicked in the balls you will go down in incredible pain. You probably will sustain more damage from the blow to the face, but being kicked in the balls hurts more.

You are misunderstanding me it seems. I am in no way claiming moral superiority in my opinions nor am I demanding everybody else follow my personal beliefs.

This same thing happened during the Ward Churchill uproar in the media (I'm sure you remember the details of that). I commented on what a fucking douchebag Churchill was and people jumped all over me for trying to "censor people" or "supporting the firing of people for their opinions". Never did I say or support those things. I think he is allowed to say whatever he wants just like I am allowed to think he is a fucking nitwit.

I feel the same way about a 9/11 movie. Oliver Stone has every right to make this movie. People have every right to watch it. People have every right to not be offended by the concept of 9/11 being used for entertainment purposes.

But in my case, it bothers me.
