Meaning?

So, what gives your life meaning? Does physical gratification (sex, food, entertainment, comfort)? Does religion or a belief? Does your work (helping others, earning money, learning)? What gives your life meaning. What makes you think your life isn't meaningless? What keeps you alive? Just interested.... Pan

Music. Psychedelic Trance to be more specific. I used to laugh at "music is my drug", and people who said that (their music-category) is not just music, but a way of life. Now I know better. Learning is also very important to me. I would be nothing if I would not absorb new ideas and knowledge on a regular basis. Creativity is another. I have to make music and graphics, else I feel like exploding. If I can not be creative, I am nothing. I can't explain how these things give me any meaning though. Physical gratification just makes me feel empty after the short initial euphhoria. I don't subscribe to any religion, and my beliefs change as fast as the wind, and are a source of both meaning and meaninglessness. What about you?

Physical gratification gives my physical life meaning. When tired I sleep. When hungry I eat. When sober I smoke bud. Religion merely provides me a framework (multiple religions provide multiple frameworks) with which to work on my spiritual development. Here religion is only a means to an end. Belief, I don't have beliefs for they introduce doubt. I know what I know, what I don't I don't. Work merely (as of now) provides income so I can afford shelter, food, etc. I try to take pride in my work, and give a positive attitude to costumers and coworkers. What keeps me alive???? Suicide just takes to much work, thus the default is to stay alive. That was a little drab. What keeps me alive is the beauty I experience from watching life, and helping it grow.

My life is meaningful to me in many ways. For one, I take great pleasure in being able to help another human, I don't think anything makes me feel better. Secondly, I love this experience called life.. I feel honored to be a part of it. Although troubled times may sometimes make things seem horrible, in the end something is always gained from it...a lesson is always learned. I enjoy learning from others as well and thouroughly enjoy a back and forth sharing of ideas and wisdom. Music. It is my passion and what drives me. There is not much that can touch me any deeper. I sometimes think my life sucks, for this materialistic reason or another..but then I realize that I have people that love me, and I love them. No materialistic circumstance could ever break that bond that we all share. Life sucks sometimes only so you can truly appreciate how awesome it really is. And for these reasons and much much more..... I LOVE YOU ALL!! And that's what keeps me alive!

Seeing people have a good time... When people appreciate my art... Making music and listening to music... Exploring my spirituallity... What keeps me alive? Knowing that there is something wonderful waiting for me to find it...

> So, what gives your life meaning? I don't know. It probably has something to do with interpreting whatever reality I can access, but I'm not sure. > Does physical gratification (sex, food, entertainment, comfort)? Yes, in that it makes me feel good. It makes me enjoy myself. > Does your work (helping others, earning money, learning)? No, not specifically. > What gives your life meaning. What makes you think your life isn't meaningless? I often think it may be meaningless. > What keeps you alive? I'm not sure but I suspect there are a lot more forces at work than the mere decision not to commit suicide.

I often derive meaning from physical gratification. Also, from work that I find personally rewarding. However, I think that I derive the most meaning from laughter. For example, I seem to think that the Simpsons is reality, and our world is the cartoon. People are always saying to me "um, the Simpsons is not real" and I'm like, "why the hell not?" The interesting thing about meaning, is that I find it so easy to dissociate it from reality, mostly through repetition. Like, if you say the word "chandelier" over and over again really fast, it is really easy to forget exactly what a chandelier actually is. I play that game a lot in my head, it reminds me of when I was a little kid and I would spin around and around until I fell over and the world would be so blurry that it made no sense.
