Daydreaming as Meditation

As far back as I can remember, I have been a daydreamer.

My daydreaming goes beyond the usual "lost in thought" variety, though.  I often disengage from awareness of my body & ego, becoming completely absorbed in watching the leaves fall, clouds move across the sky, or rain drip off the edge of my livingroom window.

It occurs to me that this is my meditation practice.  I have always struggled with formal "sitting" meditation, but daydreaming is as natural (and inevitable  :grin:) to me as breathing.  While unconventional, it provides me with a much-needed respite from the workings of my mind.

i'm also a big time daydreamer. sometimes i get so into it that when i come out of it....i'm startled by my surroundings.

Back when I didnt have air conditioning I would just lay on the floor and stair at the carpet. I guess anything looks crazy complex when your that close to it, but for some reason I felt completely zenned out when I would stair at it. Anyone ever read Orson Scott Cards Ender series? In one of the books they go to this planet where all these Asians have OCD but they think thats how they communicate with god. One of their rituals is tracing wood grains. God wood is sweet when your tripping.

Yeah you could say so. Daydreaming is like sorta being in your subconcious mind.
Lucid dreaming would be more like meditation cause during meditation you are in control of your thoughts. Atleast you try to control your thoughts.

Daydreams occur in the 'alpha' brainwave.. as does meditation.. and driving..
Sort of like body auto-pilot. When your conscious mind is elsewhere and not actively engaged in it's surroundings.
I too, find myself slipping into trance states easily when at peace.

but i see no harm in such mental lapse, it seems to be a much needed reprise from the stresses of daily life
