Watch this movie trippin, you'll be IN FOR IT (with short spoiler)

I was shroomin with a couple of friends at my buddy's apartment and one guy brought this movie called "Altered States".  Basically this man is studying the effect of hallucinogenic mushrooms combined with sensory deprivation.  He's in this isolation tank underwater so he can't see, hear, feel...sensory deprivation.  He trips BALLS, this movie has such great special effects and weird plot line, it's like a trip in a box, sit back, watch, and let your mind wander :laugh:  I'm warning you, it is a CRAZY movie! :mushroom2:

That sounds like something i'd like to try myself. Sensory deprivation with mushrooms sounds like a very rewarding experience.

I'll check this movie out when I get a chance.

Yea it probably forces your mind to wander like hell. Just to give you an idea of how fucked up this movie is, here's what happens in one of the trips....WARNING: SPOILERS

SPOILER

After eating a wild shroom found in Mexico, he enters the chamber. Minutes later he sees visions of him and a lizard on the beach. It flashes between the two and all of a sudden the lizard is a woman. Flash to him, flash back to her, and so on. Each time it flashes they're a little more covered in sand. Eventually they're both covered completely in sand. The sky grows a dark blue and everything goes completely silent. Then a cold, windy sandstorm starts brewing and they get covered so much with sand they end up melting into the vast sandy landscape, and the only sound that can be heard the whole time is that of wind blowing around. Then the sand turns into a giant whirlpool and...well, you can imagine where the rest goes till you see the movie. It had me trippin so hard and everyone else was so freaked out we didn't finish it till we calmed down and peaked.

I liked the first half of it, but after that it just got a bit too..."forced" for my tastes (if that makes sense).

I really liked the ideas they played with though.

I'd use the word "comedic", personally. I was laughing my ass off. Poor goat. But I'm with Elle, it started off strong (with the exception of the guide claiming Amanita muscaria contains atropine) and then really lost whatever momentum it had going for it towards the end.

Yah, I really liked the first half to, the whole professor experimenting with sensory dep. the cave part with the native americans was the best part. But, after that when it went all sci-fi horror on me it was kind of disappointing. Still an awesome flick though and it will really mess with your head if your tripping. I just wish it would have been more about his research and theories. Also he was ingesting amanita musc. and not psilocybin.

I've always said this movie sucked but I just realized I only really didn't like the ending. The beginning had a lot of weird imagery, it was always kind of horror though, would freak me out tripping. The part with the indians was really cool though, brewing a big pot of amanita stew :grin:

Yeah that whole indian scene was insane! Especially when the weird carnival music starts playing and he has that look on his face that you KNOW you've seen on people when they're trippin hardcore.

Yeah just saw the movie a few days ago. Definitely very entertaining. In terms of scientific value, I found very little, except for the idea of isolation tanks and drugs, two things that interest me. Great, great movie though.
