why does Rumi say we will wake from this world as if from a dream

that we were once rock and then plant and then animal - now human, and though we don't remember it at all, (since we are now sleeping and dreaming this life from the other side,) we are only now faced with dream problems in a dreamed life, but occasionally we sense the truth about that.

So if you believe what you say here about us dreaming this reality from another dimension of consciousness then are you one of my dreams or am I one of yours or are we both asleep and dreaming the same environment and having dream interactions?

It seems as though it's a rumination about death being just the beginning of a new day for the energy that lies deep within our human frames.. Kinda like ScatmanRav's sig "life is like a drop of rain getting closer and closer to falling into a lake, and then when you hit the lake there is no more rain drop, only the lake."

Funny I was just speaking of this in the Education Post. I like the way you say it.

here's my interpretation- the progression rock, plant, animal, human is a progression of consciousness and the thing is, the more consciousness something has, the more it can be said it's in a dream (that's what's implied IMO)
which i think is interesting because a dream is like pure consciousness if you think about it- it's a reality with no reality (no reality in the sense that it's all produced by the mind)
death is when you wake up, the absence of consciousness, and time stops and when time stops, that's eternity
which btw is what i think the meaning of heaven is like when people say that it's returning to the source (god), which is living with him in his plane of existence, which is outside time; (and incidentally is where time comes from). like death means going to heaven, total obliteration of consciousness
i have a few misgivings about this POV but that's how i interpret what you posted anyway

I died a mineral, and became a plant. I died a plant and rose an animal. I died an animal and I was man. Why should I fear? When was I less by dying?

Perhaps we are god, moving thru each layer of conscience (rock, animal, man).
As we perfect each level, we move on to the next level.
I think we will remain in human form, for MANY more generations, before we can move to the next level.

shit that sounds like my bad trip I had. I believe I died over 20 times during it. I hope this is not a dream and I am not God. It would be a pretty lonely existence once you come to realize this. Can God go insane? because I would.

This statement does not make sense. If you were God, I suspect you would have quite the different mind than your current one, ja? Being the culmination of existance would sort of imply not being lonely, as that is only a feeling derived from a glitch in the programming of a human mind.
Peace.
