anybody have any thoughts on Hawking's "mutiple histories for the paths of particles" theory?

also, I went to a parallel universe in my dreams last night.  everything was the same except for there was 1 less grain of sand in the sahara desert

didn't bump into myself tho

I thought everyone who has eaten mushrooms knew that what you see does not always correspond to what is out there. It's sometimes just some fascinating stuff that the great graphic co-processor in your head comes up with in order to illustrate your thoughts.

No vast repository of parallel dimensions is needed.

Occam's razor is your friend.

Oh shit, sorry. I read the article online and I assumed I included the link. Here it is:

Proof of Infinite Parallel Dimensions

One, quantum processes only really occur in VERY small systems - we're talking single particles here. The probability of quantum events occuring in macroscopic systems is EXTREMELY tiny.

The size of a system is directly relevant to what system you are in while doing the observing. Our system is very small compared to other, larger systems. The coast of Britian changes depending on your point of view. From space, it has one solid, unarguable coastline. From an airplane, the outline would be much more different. So on into infinity. So, which outline of the British coast is the correct, true view, as it will look different from every view? Answer me that, please.
Peace.

Proof of Infinite Parallel Dimensions

Well, no one proved the existence of parallel universes. The author of that article, Max Tegmark, just showed that their existence is metaphysically implied if we extrapolate our current cosmological observations to infinity. However, he fails to mention that many times in human history when we have extrapolated stuff to infinity, our conclusions have later turned out to be wrong.

On Max Tegmark's own web page, under the heading "Crazy stuff", he writes:

Every time I've written ten mainstream papers, I allow myself to indulge in writing one wacky one, like my Scientific American article about parallel universes.

He has written other crazy stuff in a similar spirit, including an article about quantum suicide that got a lot of attention five years ago. It can be downloaded from this page. The idea is that you put yourself in place of Schr?dinger's Cat in the famous cat killing experiment, and repeat this experiment until there remains only a 0.1% probability that you are still alive. If the parallel worlds really exist, you should subjectively experience that you have survived, since there is only one "branch" in which you can still experience anything. But you can never prove it to anyone else, because all other observers will see you dead with 99.9% probability.

There are flaws in this argument as well as some hidden assumptions, so please don't try this at home.

I'm sorry but this infinite dimension and parallel universe crap just doesnt fly with me :T Its probably the most abstract but most simple way to define what we do not know that people can think of.

Rhizoid, this is kind of off-topic, but I heard of this dog that got ran over by a truck, completely squished, so they packed him up in a bag and brought him to a pet-morgue type place. They tossed him in a freezer to be later cremated, when I guess buddy who ran the place opened the freezer door and found the dog standing up (in this plastic bag) wagging his tail...

'tis a crazy place we live in..

Exactly? And how many people are there in this world? That's a lot of realities, just right there...
Peace.

About 6 billion, but very few of them have ever looked directly at the real coastline of Britain.

I think you're talking about a Scientific American article that was from a few months ago.

First of all, scientists haven't proven anything. They've come up with a very interesting theory.

Check it out, the article is online: http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?articleID=000F1EDD-B48A-1E90-8EA5809EC5880000

This does not prove that your dreams are other realities.
