LOL! Yea, like the shroomery is publicly owned! * snort * LOL! They can request donations all they want and STILL have NO obligation to show any kind of records. That would be silly. To let people know to much of the behind the scenes action is bad as well. Having just recently found the shroomery
I am excited that I made it here just in time :) As for donations... I am not usually one to donate to causes where I just hand money over.... But for some trinket or a sweatshirt I would be glad to pay $40 or $50 bucks to help out and receive a momento! :) Guess it depends on the person. As for nushroom, after reading the vendor threads, specially one certain one, I was getting a bad image of him... NOW that I have read his little contributions to this thread...
Well, I am disgusted. Does he fork over any advertising money? If not, I would suggest that his ip and any other ips he uses be banned until he comes up with a public apology for being such a dick. It is just not kosher to come onto the board and waste the moderators/owners time by asking bullcrap questions and questioning any moves they make. I mean, of course with an apology and a promise to no longer bash the very board he is posting to he should be able to remain a member of this community. But this is NOT a public yahoo board. This board appears to be maintained at some levels of difficulty by just a few people, who seem to work very hard around here. Moderator bashing, or basically any figurative comparing them to Nazi's should be grounds for banishment.

There is an old saying and it goes:

LOL! Crobih, I am not quite sure what you mean by that!
Unless you meant "of"!!! And I know, new as I am I prolly have little right to be posting my mind so freely... But I have been using Chat boards before most people have known of their existence, and I see what I see and I react on what I see. I think if anything, I am more like nushroom but when it comes to stabbing the hand that butters your bread... I am apt to say things I will more than likely regret later. Besides, what better way to make myself known to the community here than to stick my d*ck in the middle of the pie and see what happens!!? Thats me, Mikey, always ready to open my mouth and insert one of my feet! Irregardless of what you meant by the last two postings, nice to meet you Crobih, and I hope we have many pleasant chats in the future :)

This wasn't a republician, democrat, or even libertarian contribution request. We all greatly appreciate this community and would do what is necessary to save it if, and when,  it is needed.
No one( not even nushroom) has said that "they" don't have the right to request donations.
But what I am saying, and Thor stated he agrees with, is that "in the spirit of the shroom" such a request(one stating that the demise of a community that many have contributed to will come about in "2" days)  should at least be followed up by transcripts warrenting the request.
If it is true then I, for one, wouldn't even need a t-shirt to show my support. And thats not to say that I need to see a dire need in order to.
I believe that everyone has a right and an obligation to express their thoughts/opinoins regardless if its their first post or #4985th. So I welcome any feedback you'd like to give and like EVERY shroomerite (I'd hope) can relate to your passion for a place such as this.
On the Nazi note:
I'm hoping you're being sarcastic when you say "any figurative comparing them to Nazis should be grounds for banishment." Banishment for freely expressing one's opinions/thoughts is Nazi-like in and of itself.
Awhile back nushroom got on someone who posted in the wrong threar with what I thought was little too much "gusto" (sue me if its a typo) but that never changed my opinion of him. Do your home work(like you really have time for that if you just discovered the Shroomery and are busy having tons of fun discovering the things it has to offer other than politics) and you will discover that nushroom has been a MAJOR contributer to this community, pays advertising dollars, and is well respected among many. Myself included.
Now that I've got nushroom's shit on my nose(can I get some free filter disks now :wink:), and you've got Thor's, maybe you can smell the fact that shit is shit and no matter whose ass it comes out of it still stinks.
Thererfor I'd rather have my head stuck up my own ass ('cause smelling another man's ass isn't my style- no offense to Ginsburg fans, the man was :cool: ahead of his time) and base my opinions on facts.

What?
What are the facts? What is the going rate for the service the shroomery recieves? And after the going rate, how much compensation should be given to those responsible for it's upkeep? All in the spirit of the shroom.

What kind expenses necessary to The Shroomery's operation are so dangerous that you feel they would need to left out in order to secure the safety of the site? It's not an Al Capone financial record.
I don't mean to come across as unappreciative of the work you and 3D have done. I'm just wondering why there seems to be a contradiction to your first statement(maybe its the beer I've been drinking- if so enlighten me, please).

Let me ask you this, a private website asks for donations, people donate, this is a common occurance on the web.... I've seen this on many occasions on sites that have donation drives.... None of them post their financial records, why should we be any different?

This is a private site, I'm not hiding anything, I just feel personal finances are really nobodies business but the owner of the site. I haven't had one person ask me to divuldge financial info out of those who donated, yet a few people keep asking.

There is nothing to hide, in fact I've told others recently in a thread in off topic the rough expenses of the shroomery... We pay monthly approx $550 for hosting, we paid about $500 when we moved over, also paid around $300 in registering domain names... Plus some other charges like set up fees for the extra ram, added features we put on the server.... Even paying for an extra month of hosting from our old server which we had to pay since there was a contract.

Needless to say, this place isn't cheap, and the Ads are pretty close now to paying the fees, thanks to some extra support of the vendor community after this crisis.

But the problem wasn't really the monthly, I was only paying say 1/4 of the hosting out of my own pocket, but it was the set up fees, registrations, etc... that added up, and I calculated roughly 1000 would cover all those expenses.

Again, if you want the exact records I won't be posting them publicly. This is a private site, and I don't think anyone has a right to view the private finances of the site. If people donate its because they care, if they feel me not disclosing the financial statements is wrong, that is their right...

Nothing is being hidden, I know nushroom is convinced of that, but he has other motives for bashing me....

I believe you and 3M deserve to be compensated for your trouble(even if you 2 don't) but Aphex(who was that masked man?) handed it over to you in complete trust. Even if you only get $250/month from ad $s, then you'd only need $750 to save it if it costs $1000 a month to run(and thats if the shroomery didn't recieve ANY donations for the entire month.-which I know it has, because some people who usually remain quiet on the sidelines do give without having to recieve a t-shirt or hoodie)

Since it costs what you say it costs then whats the harm in broadcasting a bill that says the same thing you're saying?Or has the mushroom become only a recreational drug here instead of the gateway that it is? Nushroom may have reasons. I wouldn't know. But agian I don't see the harm in making it public.
Here in Wash D.C. theres a radio station(wpfw) that is the only independant radio(jazz,blues, and funk at least) in the area. They run off of donations. Look it up and I'll bet you'll find that their expenses are made available to the public.

We don't [run] off donations, we run off advertising and up until now my own pocket. The donation drive was done because the bills were getting high and I needed to bring them all down, mr Visa wasn't happy.

How do you know this? Absolutely untrue, until I brought up the seriousness of the need for donations, we went a long time since our last donations. Believe me dontations up until this last week had been pretty tiny.

People don't really donate unless we express a need, if we don't mention anything people don't donate. Those people who do in normal times, are extraordinary.

This $1000 wasn't for this month only ... Its an acumulated debt that had been building for 5 months.

Again, we are not public, we are private. We do not run off donations, in fact if we did, we would have surived maybe the first month after me and 3D took over. Up until recently donations made up a tiny % of revenue for this place.

If and when we make any money off this site, we will use that money to work on buying our own server..

I've disclosed quite a bit here, you know our monthly costs, our AD revenue is a little tricky right now since there are going to be some changes very soon and I can't be sure of exactly what the future holds in that regard.

But I will say this, after these $$ problems, our vendors have stepped up to help us out, and I honestly am very confident that now we will have enough monthly to pay our bills and hopefully start saving up for our own server.

I've answered all your questions, and I can't imagine you need more unless you think there is something shady going on. I know some think that, but those I can count on my right hand.

* applause * I will break down and answer your total letter pretty soon, unfortunatly I see myself posting something equally long winded and don't have the half hour I would need to respond, but... thanks!!! * grin * It's always nice to see people paying attention.

Just a quicky... I have NOTHING against nushroom. He was one of the first people to talk to me when I started posting here... But what it all boils down to is if you don't like the way things are run on another guys board... Then either
keep it to yourself and your buddies, or leave! No reason to make public some of the stuff I have seen posted. Most moderators working in the online biz who are fairly experienced nip that stuff in the bud. And pull it. It's their right, their site and their perogotive. If anything the moderators here are FAR more lenient than they might be.

Anyway, it was a pleasure, but duty calls here at my porn shop so I gotta go!

Ya know what.. this is some rediculous shit. Thor and 3D work their asses off,, their own time to make the shroomery stay alive. They make 0% profit.
And so why, just because they are bored and have no life and want to talk to some of these punk ass little kids and bitches that visit this board? Yah, that it, they just love the stress some of these members here cause them. I dont think so.

There is a much bigger picture here involved that some of you ppl have not even figured out yet. Spreading the knowledge of these mushrooms come first. The Shroomery is vast vault of knowledge and a gathering of minds that we all indulge in. If it wasn't, you would not be reading this right now. You learn right here. And at what cost. Nothing to most of you.  90% of you its free. Yes some of you just come here and bitch when they ask for a little money to pay the bills. You question there every move... what gives with that... what do you want a monthly statement for all the free informaion you read?


You know what people .. .. this place does not run itself. There are ppl here such as 3dshroom and Thor that work there asses off here,,,,to make this place stay alive so you can read this and all the other great info here. Oh ...and get this......they have lives. Yep... no bullshit.. just like me and you... they to have lives.
They have girlfriends..... they have friends, ....they have families. They are people just like me and you.  And they are damn good people.

And for them to give up their time and knowledge of what it takes to run to the most powerful tool on the net for mushroom cultivation.....THE SHROOMERY....you all need to give them respect and your support.

Ok... back to what makes this place run. It takes a lot of time and TLC by a couple of ppl that care about the futrure of these mushrooms. That is immediate. It dont matter how much money I dontate or other vendors pay their small donations.... without these ppl, 3Dshrooms and Thor, this place is not alive. Their is time and energy... lots of it here for you to read this NOW, and forever.

So I ask you....stop your bitching about them asking for donations. These donations are needed
I've had many talks with these guys, they make 0% prophit. Which really sucks!!! that means no xtra money for their hard work. In fact Thor is paying out of his own pocket just to keep in nuetral.

Ok..one real question can you afford say just and xtra $10 a month? YES... most of you can. Even a $20 spot that month your using the shroomery will help. Those of you that can not, its ok if your broke, that is ok to... but dont bitch about money for the free service to you...save all of the stress and time.  Dont bitch. but when your day comes rember the knowledge you learned here and come back for more.

We are all here toghether.... we all share something in common. These mushrooms from our creator have brought us here together.
