oh I also agree on the tek thing. I haven't grown in quite some time but I'd like to get started again soon. But the last I remember.. the tek section of the site needed a serious overhaul - ie.. get rid of shroomwizard's tek which doesn't work.. add the latest teks (picture guided teks as posted by roadkill and many others in the past couple of years would be greatly beneficial to the tek section)
ok but now I went to the tek section and see that Roadkill's tek IS in there.. and can't seem to find shroomwizard.. so it looks like the tek section has been revamped since I last looked at it. looks good.. but I'm sure we could find things to improve on.

I really enjoy the site right now and don't see many problems.
One thing I think would help the too many dumbasses/not enough quality posts would be to remove the post count or make it more vague such as 500+,1000+,5000+.
I don't think a gathering would be too sketchy if it were on private property with only trusted members of the community allowed.
Excellent job Ythan on asking for member input, always a good thing

You asked for it!
First and foremost is speed. This site seems slow compared to others.
Next I just have to say that the hardest thing to find on this site is the tek's I end up using google.com with the site restricted to find the tek's. Maybe you need a Tek section broken into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Once I find the teks some are hard to follow as they are broken into several pages and not well linked.
As to the dumb questions, I asked a bunch of dumb questions just to get my post count up so I could participate in the ratings system when trading. Many of the questions I asked I am sure could have been found in the Tek's or by searching the site. I don't know of a way to improve this.
Last you need to add a delete button to the gallery! I have a few pic's I wanted deleted and cant. (NOTE: I moved them into a folder called trash if some one can delete them for me)
Hope my honesty does not cause any hard feelings.

I remember a voice chat between Myself and cervantes, we were talking about how we would like to join together growing magic mushrooms and the need for understanding what people do when they decide to take them.
Pointing out the ovbvious concerns of tripping are, for many people come to these boards with the intention to take magic mushrooms but are not prepared for the mental consequences.
But just to say... I love this place. Ive come to meet a lot of great people. This is one of the most open minded boards i have known. It is very dedicated to sharing information amongst users and ideas while embracing individuality and diversity.
Maybe we could think of some more ways to interest people about mushrooms, maybe add a section in the mushroom cultivation. Maybe experimental mushrooms, or current news and research regarding magic mushrooms and medicinal mushrooms in general, how they can be beneficial to health.
or just a health section regarding mushrooms.

I love this site, it is actually my favorite site on the whole net. I honestly can't really find anything to complain about. I also agree with the delete pictures function, this should be made available. There has been a few times when I have updated pictures, or accidentally uploaded the wrong one and would like to delete them.
Another thing I think should be implemented is user donations, or a "platinum membership" that you pay for or something like that. Increase the picture upload limit for these users, and possibly offer these users their own shroomery email...
I noticed the smileys have been expanded, but not the post icons. Perhaps include a button for "more post icons".
I also agree with Zero and think a section regarding medicinal use of mushrooms, and the current/past research on them would be excellent...

Overall, I think the admin is doing an excellent job running things. Thing main things I would work on is the speed of the UBB, and cracking down on the rules a bit harder.
On the Gathering topic, I would leave it to members, b/c in my only experience, it worked very well.
to the greenies, and keep up the good work!

nice poll
the only thing i think i need to elaborate on is the annoying feature of having to click quik reply before i can click continure to reply. It would be much easier and would conserve time to just be able to click continue and not have to worry about scrolling back up to click the quik reply button beside someones post.

I really agree with the comments regarding photos in your user picture area. Comparable sites like Bluelight.nu make it very easy to delete your own photos.
Those who complain about speed here should take a look at some other message boards though. In my opinion, the speed here is fucking excellent!!
I also agree that "official" meetups would be a horrible idea. Members of Bluelight.nu were busted and raided by the police at a hotel a year or two back when they had a large, heavily publicized on the message board, meetup. I would highly reccomend against such a meetup. That could be really bad news. A lot of people spent the night in jail after the aforementioned meetup. You better believe that the authorities read this website.

I have absolutely nothing to complain about. I spend all my time on the Shroomery! I don't knwo what i'd do without it...though I would like to see the marketplace more organized..possibly into different categories of what you want to sell, trade and what you are looking for. Otherwise..fucking awesome!

my suggestions :
- we need to be able to delete our own images, mods can do it so i know its possible
- new users should not be able to see otd for 7-10 days. i think that would discourgae many from making stupid puppets.

Howdy ythan, I think it's been about 4 years since the last time we spoke directly. That itself shows just how much the site has grown. Anyway, I love the shroomery. If anything comes out negative, just remember that. You asked for elaboration, so here's mine:
Quote:
Which features would you most like to see us improve?
Without a doubt the archive/teks and the search engine. This is a shrooms site, and those are the two things must useful for people looking for shroom info. They are also two areas that could be improved a lot, although the teks/faq etc are much better than they were just a year or two ago. Quote:
What direction do you think we should be moving in?
I accidently chose other, but should have abstained. I've never used the site for anything other than mushroom info/conversation. People who use or have a problem with the other areas probably have a lot more input on this. As long as there is good mushroom growing/hunting/ingestion info here as well as conversation on the boards I really don't care. If I want a hug I'll get one from my daughter. If I want small talk, I'll get it at the coffee shop. But whatever ya'll want to do outside of shrooms is fine w/me.
Quote:
What would you say the biggest problem is on the BB?
other. personally I think the biggest problem is that the cultivation boards are rarely active with a lot of the useful methods and ideas being discussed at some other shroom sites. This isn't only the shroomery though so it's not really a big problem. If one really wants to keep up with current advances in cultivation, it is necessary to scan at least 3 boards on a regular basis. I don't know if attracting the (often very adamantly) non-shroomery members is a solution, or if more people just need to post across the sites. Whatever, if that's our biggest problem we are doing pretty well.
Quote:
How did you find the Shroomery?
I think I was born here. Maybe I didn't find the shroomery, maybe it found me?
Quote:
Have you ever thought about leaving the Shroomery? Why? (You may choose as many as you wish)
I chose all the selections except "never thought of leaving". not as interested in shrooms; Anybody whose interest in shrooms hasn't waxed and waned some over time hasn't been into shrooms very long, or desperately needs a few extra hobbies. didn't like the changes in the community; Anybody who hasn't longed for "the good old days" probably wasn't here for them, or they weren't around for the good days at one of the numerous other shroom sites that have existed in the last few years. I have been personally seduced by several other sites at various times, largely due to "community vibe", not so much recently but during periods of nastiness I'll make someplace else my home for a while. This is where strong bug judicious moderation makes all the difference. I've also regularly just been more interested in what people are doing elsewhere. In the end though, I always come back, probably due to the sheer volume of posters here as much as anything. Time; I think very many people have probably "wasted" far more hours on here than we would like to admit to norms in the meat world. trouble/risk/paranoia; Anybody who doesn't realize that participating in conversations at sites like this poses a security risk (no matter how small) has probably never really thought about security at all. Now, I'm obviously still here after all of those incidents, whatever thats worth.
Quote:
Would you like to see us actively try and recruit more members (i.e. advertise)?
I chose "not just anybody" and I probably mean that more strongly than most. I think the only people that need to be recruited are experienced cultivators/hunters/mycologists rather they be active on other boards or new to the OMC. The newbs will find us if they need us. We can always use more quality content and discourse. That in itself will bring newbs who are looking for such things. And so far as the general public, who cares about attracting non-shroom people? I've certainly found experts in various other fields than shrooms here, but there were here because of the shroom interest. If we just want to have quality non-shroomers, why don't we just 86 the website altogether and start a talk show?
Quote:
Please rate the Shroomery.
One of my favorites. As I mentioned before though, without checking other sites such as mycotopia and thenook (those are just my favorite others) then lotsa good shroom info, especially cultivation info and cultivator info is missed out on. So it's only one of my fav's. Also, for the non-shroom stuf I definitely go to other sites. IMO politics are best discussed off-line, but if you feel the need it is only productive if done among like minded folk. Damn, I was going to list all the forums and give similar thoughts, but I forgot how many there are now. Oh well, lets just say i'll check about a dozen other resources if I really was looking for info on science and technology.
Quote:
If you could offer the administrators some advice, what would it be?
Absolutely "keep up the good work". You guys do a largely thankless and tedius job, and we appreciate it even if you don't see it.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

Appearance, Layout, Accessibility, Ease of navigation, and all sorts of other web design features seem sub par at all other websites, ever since I found the shroomery.
Another shroomerite (exaclty whom, I forget) once said something along the lines of, "It only makes sense that a website that is so user friendly, easy to use and is so nicely laid out could only be created by fellow shroomers"
Keep up the good work, I think that the administration is doing a very good job taking care of everything within their/its power.

I think you guys are doing an excellent job!
To add to what was said in regards to OTD and puppets...I was thinking maybe otd and the gathering forum could become visable after a certain number of posts, that way people are forced to utilize the other aspects of the community instead of just beong OTD'ers and I say this in regard to the gathering forum to weed out possible narcs. I was also thinking alot of other sites have user journals...like online journals, could we get those???? huh huh please??? I think they're neat.
All in all I love this place and you all know it.

Alot of excellent ideas and suggestions.
I think the OTD one with it not appearing until a certain post count is not a bad idea at all, same with the Gathering forum. Good idea KOTT and Gil
My wish is for the Tek/info part of this site to be drastically updated and made to be a source of pride for the website, not the source of 'shame' that it is currently
Site speed will improve a lot in the next few months, we are always spending money to improve our server and will continue to make it as fast as we can afford.
I think the BB is quite perfect to be honest, its got a lot of forums but most of them are not overwhelmingly busy like OTD and have added a lot I think to the overall community. The arguments against OTD to me are silly since if you choose not to click on it you'll never have anything to complain about
I think creating another alternative to OTD with the pub, or which was called earlier 'cheers' and 'thors whores' This was a move which I'm very pleased with as its really given everyone a home to chit chat in an enviornment that they prefer.
I think the cult forums as always have a lot of repetitive questions and that will always be the case on this board as it is on every message board around. People feel better having people answer a common question rather than looking themselves.
Mushroom hunting forum to me is something I've always had a soft spot for since its the first forum that drew me here, I think its doing very well.
All in all the site is moving in such a positive direction and with recent gatherings I think people who experience those get to see what a special community we truly have.
I know there will always be disagreements on various issues on the site, but I feel confident that our direction will always be a positive one.
Excellent survey Ythan!

the only suggestion I'd make is if a thread gets locked/moved/deleted/etc... there really should be some sort of an explination given (whether by PM, or the last post in the thread, or whatever) just cause it's kinda annoying when you try an find some thread and it's mysteriously dissapeared, or like it's locked for no obvious reason, or whatever

Store merchandise availability needs a little improvement, imo.
Excellent balance in forum topics!
I'm not even going to bring up the dumb ass posts.
very user-friendly, I've never thought about leaving though I do worry about the security here. A panic button would be a good idea, imo, to delete a user account by a one click pm to all mod accounts to request immediate removal. In the wrong circumstances, there are posts here that are incriminating and could be used in court. *shudders*
Plenty of members already, allow guests access to some boards with user invites for membership...maybe invites from 3 members and you're a noob?
Never too many gatherings!! They rock!
And honestly, I was thinking about the professional way in which most of the mods handle the boards. I've been a member of several boards and I've seen how common and aggravating the power trips can be. This one isn't too bad but it does have its moments;)***Those moments are beginning to become a bit more common though***
