remember, tennessee teacher scopes was indeed CONVICTED of illegally teaching evolution in public school back in the '20s (clarence darrow for defense & william jennings bryant for the prosecution; you may have seen the film "inherit the wind"?)
but he (mr scopes) was only fined $200, & not tarred & feathered & ridden out of town on a rail, like some folks mighta been hopin'...

I remember this same crap in the Viet Nam war. Remember. That's the one we lost. By the time we "wised up" we had known for years we were going to lose. Americans don't wise up, because here we are again. If we had wised up then the parents would have informed their children of the mess they had made. Not so. :thumbdown:

Even if they did, and only 15-20% of the people wanted the war.... The remaining 80-85% would just sit on their ass while we as a country go to war anyway, their isn't much the public can do to stop a war, its those in power that have to stop it; war can't really be stopped short of a revolution.

I think you just nailed the whole problem with "Evolution vs Creation in the classroom". Most teachers don't know what a theory is. If they did, there would be no argument about the evolution vs creation topic. Personally, I think they should use the two as an example to teach how conflicting theories work rather than picking one to teach as fact and ignoring the other.

I don't know about parents in the US, but if creationism was to be taught on our schools, many parents would get really mad.
I was taught the evolutionist theory and in fact, i don't know of any public school teaching the creationist theory over here. We have religion classes as an option, but i guess most kids are not really into it.
Anyway i thought the US was an atheist state. I guess i was wrong ...

Science classes have no business teaching dogma. They need to teach science. Evolution is critical to the field of biology, so to undermine it with religious dogma would be a very bad idea. If you're going to teach creationism, teach it in a religious studies class.

Its suggested all over the place that we're a Christian nation... although the constitution clearly suggests otherwise.

Although, with some of our current political practices, theirs still plenty of room to grow concerning separation of church and state.

Anyway, I remember when I was around 11 or 12, at that time my parents sent me to many different summer camps in the US but I was going to school in France, and I told them at one point; "I think american kids are stupider than french ones"...

and i still think its globally true, i feel the american mentality is less mature than the european one...i mean, just the differences in subjects of discussion between teens would be very interesting to study...like the difference in talking about nothing in particular and having a philosophical or political debate...

but who am i to judge anyway huh?
