Minnesota Liberty caps?

Well, I'm headed to mideastern MN. for vacation on friday, coming back tuesday, and am going to try some mushroom hunting while I'm there. I've heard reports and even seen pics of semis out of michigan, do you lib pickers think theres any semis to be found in neighboring MN? I'm going to check regardless just to satisfy my curiosity. How have the libs been so far this year? Any good fruitings in the US or Canada yet? Any helpful tips finding the famous liberties? Should I only spend my time checking cow and sheep pastures? Or are they somewhat common in natural grasslands?
Thnaks for any help, I'm bringing the camera, so if I find anything interesting(and probably even if I don') I'll have pics to post when I return home.

Lk, the key for liberty caps is cool temps and moisture (perferably alot). If you got temps that fall down below 50 at night and dont go much above mids 60s in the day then its possible they could be growing over there. The semis do best once its a little colder than that, but once it gets really cold, like below freezing they get shut down. The golden window is right around the first frost. I am really clueless as to what the weather is like over in the east as i am pacificnorthwest born and raised. Best place to look would be any pasture thats has had cows in it in the past 10 years or so, but semis dont fruit from the dung itself. When looking for these babies in the field i usually use the following techniquie. Walk at a slow place and keep the eyes on the ground, i am sure you are familiar with this, spotting libs can be difficult so usually just look the big one in a patch thats got its head above the grasses. Spot a big on and check under you feet for the ones you are stepping on, then kneel down and scope the area and see which dirrection the patch is heading off in and begin to pick. The cool thing about libs is that once you find one there is normally a small city of libs surrounding it. Another cool thing is that each "small city" of libs is part of a state which is made up of many more small cities and sometimes a huge metropolis. My point being is that when libs are fruiting they are abundant and all you gotta do is stop one to find alot followed by spotting another one in a patch 10 feet away and find a bunch more.
This was really long post, i rambled a bunch and prolly didnt make much sense but thats the best i can offer with my disorganized pattern o' thoughts. Hope my words help, ehhhh
awesome!

Thanks for the info cardboard :) MN had their first frost 2 nights ago, and they temps are in the high 30's to low 40's at night, and the high 50's to low 60's during the day. It also just rained a good buit the past week or so. So I guess my chances are fairly good, that is if there are any libs to be found up the in the land of 10,000 lakes :)
I'm going to try and have a safe trip, GG. I hated flying before, now I'm almost deathly afraid of it :) Probably just self medicate my ass before I get on that plane :)

Those temps sound great for lib pickins!! You will know semis right when you see them, they are pretty distinct. I went out hunting earlier and still came up completly emptyhanded. The weather gods are toying with us hunting folk in the northwest.
GOOOD LUCK

Well, its midnight, I'm headed to bed after this bowl, and I'm getting up at 6am to fly out to MN tommarow. Take care everyone, pick lots of mushrooms, and take lots of pics, I know I will :)
Take care all,

Just wanted to say that this post made me really happy to read. It's threads like this that I'd like to print out and show to my parents, that mushrooms aren't simply a primo way to get fucked up...an entire universe filled not only with psychedelic dreams but vibrant people who make up a bright community.
Best of luck LK, be sure to let us know how it turns out. Catching shroomies in their natural habitat has got to be an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon, i'll have to try it myself some day
