turning brown rice into bfr
    #401094 - 09/22/01 08:00 PM (22 years, 6 months ago)

i just went to the store and bought two kinds of brown rice
Lundberg organic long grain brown rice
&
Uncle Bens natural whole grain brown rice

the first one sounds the nicest.. they say on the back everything is 100% natural "...with nothing but the husk removed"

now my question..
i need to turn this brown rice into brown rice flour..
im not sure the consistancy i need it to be
i have this little machine that chops stuff up anywhere from extremly fine powder to powder/choppy peices to choppy peices.. depending on how hard i push down the top of the lid on it...

what sort of consistancy should i be looking for to make the best bfr.

thanks!

Flour is powder, one usually grinds his rice to a sand like consistency for optimum water displacement and nutrient absorbtion.

One takes his bag of rice and proceeds to open it. One then dumps the rice into his coffee grinder and presses the button until a powder like consistency is attained. One then dumps this into a measuring cup and repeats the process until the bag is empty and the fungus is happy.

The Brown rice you grind yourself colonizes a little faster than regular BRF.

I grind up my rice in the blender. I like it that way cuz it comes out with powder and some bigger chunks. Seams to work best water wise for me that way.

If your saying this because you read this somewhere then -Brown rice Flour and Whole brown rice colonize at the same speeds. If you have actualy done it, the difference in colonization times was probably due to how packed the substrate was.

Remember, the only reason why your grinding the rice is so you remove the outer shell(the hardest part to cook BTW) and so you can just mix it with water and verm and proceed with sterilizing. If you like to grind rice , by all means-grind your rice. Hell, i used todo it too. Just trying to save you some time. Sorry if anyone thinks the directions are too hard to follow, i don't know how much simpler i could have written them. Maybe you can help???

peace and good luck
