I know that a lot of the people on this forum are new to growing, and even BRAND new to growing. I am in the middle of my second attempt, I have a casing of Amazonians right now forming little primordia as I type.
It can be a little intimidating posting around experts, and you feel dumb when you almost make posts like "OMG, my shroom was like 1/4" this morning and now it's like 1/2"!" or "There's a speck of fuzz in my jars, I'm so excited!"
So I invite all the noobs here to come and be excited over our first grows and to share stories, thoughts, whatever. Go ahead and post out of focus pics of what you think might be primordia, or maybe it's rhizomorphic mycelium...

Tomorrow I shall Inoculate 12 1/2 pint jars... I have B+ and Thai Koh Samui Super ... What should i do... All B+ for my first time, or a mix? Or all Thai? I have the TiT all set up and ready for incubation.. it is running at around 83 degrees and is lookin good... Only fear is that my jars look a little moist on the inside.. but no standing water.. Oh well, I did this shit by the book.. Only time will tell how it goes!

If it was me, I would just do one strain first. It could get confusing trying to keep track of different strains for your first time. Plus if you fuck up you can still have one clean, unused syringe as a back up. If I had a strain with "super" in it's name, this would definitely be my back up.
I've got some B+ growing in a honey culture. Honey tek is EASY! I haven't inoculated anything w/ them yet, but probably will next week.
Right now I have two strains. I want to start trading as soon as I can make spore prints. I think that having a nice variety of strains would be fun! Then I could either grow different strains at once or maybe even rotate my strains.

well i have 6 pint jars currently that are incubating in a home made chmaber i made out of a non-submersible tank heater(sort of a strange chamber, but it works) and im planning on doing as many casings that i can with them, hopefully 4 casings or so in a aqaurium with perlite humidification. i know what you mean about being exited though, right when i saw that white mold in my jars i was pumped to start fruiting.

At first I was thinking about (and still might) using an aquarium for a FC. It would be easy to get accessories for it, and it would just be plain cool looking! "... and here are my pet shrooms..."

If you own an extra aquarium, then props.
If you don't, then go to walmart, or the like, and get a $5 dollar sterlite container. 30-50 gal.

i am in the process of sterilizing my first grow's casing mix as i type.
This is my first grow:
22 1-pinters of Rye and rye based blend substrates.
0 contams
4 jars were too wet and only grew about 10-35percent (i planted outside).
1 100percent jar i planted outside as well for fun.
i am going to case the other 17 tonite and incubate (two tub aquarium heater) some more, then into my martha w/dual humidifier (coolmist, ultrasonic) setup.
strain is tasmanian.
the 9x11x2.5 inch pans will get two jars each cased with 50/50+ tek, and the small loaf pans that i got are getting 1 jar each cased with res tek.

My own personal grows and others frpm what i've read/seen had shown that B+ does mighty well on poo/straw spawned w/ grains...

Hi! I am about to attempt my first grow...haven't got the spore syringes yet but I am still excited as hell to be finally doing this!!! I am going to use the PMP and I was thinking of going with Cambodian to start with. It's gonna be a hot summer here soon so I hear they can handle the heat for fruiting. I don't have air conditioning or anything. I also liked the description of Plantasia and it said they are with warmer temps too.
Does anyone know...is it possible to use half the spore syringe at one time and save the second half for a later date? Or do contaminants get introduced into the syringe at inoculation so I should use it up all at once?
Also I had trouble understanding how the synthetic filter disks (eg. from Mycosupply) for the jar lids should work. Do I put them on the jar, then put the metal lid with holes drilled over that, then the metal band? Or does using the filter mean I skip using the metal lid and just use the filter alone with the metal band to hold it on...then PC it like that and later just inoculate through the filter and leave it with just the filter to incubate? (I would cover it with tinfoil in the PC though...then remove the tinfoil?) Oh, I guess I should say as a total beginner here I am using BRF cakes with vermiculite...as recommended here for a total noob like me.

Just don't pull back on the syringe and Suck in air...The air is unfiltered(open air), so yea, you should be fine...

Just like that...The tin foil on top just helps condensing water drip off, that way it doesnt puddle up on your filter disc.

I am about to case my first grow in about 4 days. I have 5 1 pint jars almost 100% colonized with myc. The strain is TAZ. I will be casing with Tenn Stud 50/50. I will get pics of the sub jars on later today.
PS I used a Whole Corn tek that i found on this site for the jars. Seems to work great

that happend to me once and i can't remember but i believe when that happens it takes you to a page with a link where u upload your pic and then u can downsize it and insert it, good luck with the taz's some friends and i just ate all mine last week and they are nice, i've had better visuals with other strains but the body buz was very intense for all of us. GL BTW can i get a link for this whole corn tek?

Well I mixed my substrate and pressure cooked it last night. Unfortunately, due to a critical error (i followed the pressure cooker canning guide) too much water went into the PC and im pretty sure my bottom jars got water in them. I knew as I was putting them in that the water level was too high but I said fuck it, just let the bottom jars sacrifice themselves for the sake of the 16 jars on top of them I havnt opened the PC yet today, but if they dont look too waterlogged I will probably try and knock them up. I put a lot of work into those jars, it pains me to see them wasted now.
