Is Ego loss dangerous?
    #3914644 - 03/14/05 01:09 AM (19 years, 19 days ago)

I'm very interested in what everyone has to say about ego loss. But I have a question: if you lose your sense of self, does that mean that you lose control of what your are physically doing? I mean, if you're lying down would you still feel yourself get thirsty, and be able to get yourself a glass of water? Or are you "stuck" lying there thinking? Would it be possible to do something dumb (call/talk to someone) without really wanting to? Is it at all dangerous in the sense that you can lose control of yourself phyiscally?

Ego loss is not dangerous cause it is a complete myth, there is no such thing. The whole thing stems from stupid hippy anti-self philosophy.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

If what I have experienced is egoloss (and I think it probably is), then there is no danger at all. It is simply a change in perception where the world is viewed without judgement. When I say without judgement, I mean exactly that... there is no hot or cold, love or hate, this or that... there simply... is. While in this state of mind, you are unaware that you are in this state of mind. You don't realize that you were there until after the fact.

About the best analogy I can come up with is daydreaming. I would say the chances of doing something you didn't mean to while experiencing egoloss is about the same as doing something you didn't mean to while daydreaming. The mental experience of daydreaming is nothing like that of egoloss, but the way the body reacts to the two is about the same.

I think it could be dangerous. If you lose your ego you lose your self-confidence, however too much ego can be bad.

No more dangerous than narcolepsy while locked inside your own home...

In my experiences, ego loss (surrender of mind) has been accompanied by a surrender of body... meaning release of physical tension in the body... relaxation, essentially.

So it usually takes place on a flat surface of some sort, such as the ground.

In summary:

As long as you stay in an area where it's safe to be on the ground (ie, not in the middle of a street) ego loss is not dangerous.

--

P.S. I find that kneeling and bent all the way forward with your head to the ground (muslim prayer pose of some sort I think) is a very comfortable position for entering an ego loss experience.

When you're fighting the physical stress of a trip because it's too intense, try letting yourself relax in that position. Some egos find the concept humiliating in the moment... that's a good sign--do it anyway!

Ego loss is *very* dangerous! It can make you clinically insane. It can change your view of reality. It can make you believe in God. It can cause you to forgive your enemies. It can force all responsibility onto you. It can make you feel connected with everyone and everything else in the universe. It can cause you to alter your life in drastic ways. It can make you joyful.

Yes, if you have a family history of mental disorder, playing with psychedelics may trigger the onset of an underlying condition. That is not to say they are the cause - if you have it, is already there, but they may be the catalyst that bring it to the forefront and activity. Then again, a horribly difficult breakup could do the same thing to you - both have potential to be intense emotional experiences that rock you to the core.

Best to be safe, I'm sorry to say.

Thanks Delta i've heard that if it runs in the family then you have ten times greater risk...

Also... when i've tripped on 30g - 60g or mexicans before i've worked out:

Basically that everyday life is false and on shrooms its real, anyone know what i mean?? For exmaple shrooms give you the insight into life which you should have 24/7 but years of evolution has taken from us what we needn't think about.

Sorry but each time i have come to that conclusion ... wierd?

Thanks

I usually get to this point where if I walk from nature into an area with buildings, everything seems to me like it's a movie set - fake.

I believe it's probably a common insight/reaction.

I know exactly what your talking about mikeyboy. When i trip i feel like i have a greater understanding of the world and universe around me, that i understand the people I'm with better (not necessarily what they're saying/doing, but what they're really all about), and that i don't know what i didn't understand it all before. then after a few days it usually basically disappears until the next trip, though i still remember feeling that way. Also one of the reasons I enjoy shrooms better than acid... the whole mental/emotional trip.

Recently I experienced the most intense trip of my life so far.I did'nt have ego-loss in the sense that my soul left my body,it was more like the mushrooms were letting me know that compared to them,I am nothing.I did'nt have intense hallucinations other than typical breathing walls and kick ass CEV's,but the mental trip IMO was insane.Everything you thought you are,is,am,were, should be,could be,would be,or will ever be is meaningless compared to the realization of how meaningless you actually are.Thats what shrooms showed me.They also showed me how much potential I have and how I just let it waste away and even after being shown by them the path I should take in life,I still continue on the one I've been on for years.Maybe it will take complete and total ego-loss for me to better understand what the shrooms were trying to tell me.If thats the case then I look forward to it,but then again that may be a bad thing too.
