IMO i don't think weed would be as widely used, if it was legal it wouldn't have the commercialization of what it has today, you look at any drug site, and its listed, due to the fact that it's illegal, without this commercialization i just think it would be an old mans herb.

By respect i mean, if you look at a legal drug that hasn't much commercialization/advertising, a majority of people would just look at it and turn a blind eye, where as if it was weed, it would generate alot of interest, due to its illegal status.

I think if weed was made legal it would be commercialized to a greater extent than can be imagined. I think weed would also gain in popularity as well once more people gain exposure to it, after all weed is what it is, a wonderful and safe high/relaxant. Weed puts alcohol to shame, if beer is a big thing as a legal inebriate then weed legalized would be bigger IMO.

Weed is less harmful than alcohol, but we have to consider the mental consequences of over indulgance especially in young teenagers who's brains have not yet fully developed.

Legalising cannabis would be a smart move, as this may deter rebellious young teens from overindulgance with this substancet, and even if they do so, maybe then there will be less desire for continual abuse?

But i am just specualting as its a tricky subject to really draw any accurate conclusions, but if we examine Amsterdamn as the basis for asumption its mainly the tourists who smoke alot of cannabis, and less locals actually bother using this substance as its become less desirable due to legalisation.

Why speculate? Just take a look at the places where cannabis is legal or decrimizalized.

I agree that an age limit would necessarily be imposed and that it would match alcohol as far as restrictions go.

The point about Amsterdam is a good one, but the USA is a strange place, a nation that in a single breath condemns psychedelics out of hand and then pushes all sorts of pharmaceutical drug likes there's no tomorrow. We're a nation of profit and fear. Which is why I believe weed will never be legalized widely here, not while our society is so freaked out by these states of mind produced by weed and other psychedelics. As ToTheSummit said weed is not for everyone but the choice to partake of these experiences should be allowed in a truly free society, the USA may never reach that point.

I'm sure the government would figure out ways of profiting from the growing and selling of cannabis, maybe from licensing and penalties imposed on the non-licensed. governments are very experienced in that sort of shit. I'm sure many people would rather just buy the finished product rather than use their green thumb, just as beer is easily made (not as easily as pot is grown I agree) but relatively few people brew their own beer compared those who just buy it at the store.
