More Q & A on the Metzner Alchemical Divination Practices Training
What exactly is alchemical divination?
Alchemy, descended from shamanism, is the ancient art and science of human psycho-physico-spiritual transformation. Divination is is the practice of seeking healing, insight and guidance from higher dimensional, inner sources ? the Divine or Spirit World. Commonly, divination involves symbolic systems such as the Tarot, the I Ching, Runes or Horoscope Astrology; these can be considered divination accessories or tools. In esssence, divination is a process of asking questions on core life issues and obtaining answers, which are then applied and integrated. Therefore: alchemical divination is divination focussed on questions of personal and collective transformation.
How does divination differ from remote viewing?
In remote viewing, an individual attempts to clairvoyantly ?see? across the barriers of space and time, toward a pre-determined target, unknown to the remote viewer or the tester. There is no personal involvement or relevance of the target to the individual. In divination the intention or question of the divination guides the process, and that makes it totally personal. The questioner seeks answers to personal questions of the past or the future. In both processes, meditative, centered states are used to facilitate transcending the space-time boundaries.
What is the role of altered states in the Metzner Alchemical Divination (M.A.D.) Practices?
Mild, expanded or heightened states of consciousness, induced by guided Agni Yoga (Light-Fire) meditations, are used in preparing for the divination process. This is analogous to the use of a shamanic drumming journey for divinatory purposes in shamanic practice. The meditations, enhanced by breathing, toning, chanting and selected movement practices, serve to clear the mind and calm the emotions, thus maximizing receptivity to the subtle inner promptings from Spirit.

COURSE SYLLABUS Title: Alchemical Divination and Prenatal Psychology Course #: EWP 7778 Semester: Spring 2005 No. of units: 1 Instructors: Ralph Metzner, Ph.D. and Sally Clark, MA Class Times: Class will meet Saturday April 30th, 9:30 am to 6 pm (Minna 107); and Sunday May 1st, 9:30 am to 6 pm (Mission 306).
Description; Alchemical divinations are processes of structured intuitive inquiry, using mild, meditative altered states. In this class we will focus our discussions and divinations on the important role of peri- and pre-natal development in the formation of character structure and personality development; the crucial parental/ancestral imprints at conception; and the soul?s incarnational choice and agreements. This will lead us into consideration of some little-known writings from the 19th century sage G.T. Fechner, the medieval Jewish wisdom literature, and the Bardo teachings of Tibetan Buddhism. In addition to the alchemical divination methods created by Ralph Metzner, we will practice the therapeutic regression methods and perspectives pioneered by William Emerson and others. There will be some breathwork and floorwork involved in this experiential workshop.
Prerequisites: The course is open to all CIIS graduate students (MA and PhD), and undergraduates with consent of instructor. It is also open to members of the public as an audit course.
Summary of Educational Objectives: Purpose of the course is to provide an overview of the emerging field of pre- and perinatal psychology, related to ancient spiritual teachings regarding incarnation and the soul, in the context of experiential methods, such as regression and divination.
Learning Objectives: after completing this course, students should be able to 1. have a clearer understanding of the emerging field of prenatal psychology 2. related the findings from this field to East-West spiritual teachings. 3. have a sense of how experiential methods can facilitate access to prenatal memories.
Learning Activities: 1. Cognitive didactic -- 50% 2. Experiential ? 50% Note: There will be breathwork and floor work involved. Students should bring a floor mat, sleeping bag or blanket, as well as pillow; and wear comfortable clothing.
A final paper will be expected from these students taking the class for credit. READINGS:
