LSD/Mushroom Comparison
    #3763441 -

Hi you all,

I'm new here, this is my first post. I'm about to embark on an exciting chapter in psychedelics in my life, thanks to the resources of this website. Just a few more days! I'll get right to it. How does the LSD trip compare to mushroom trips? Let me give a quick history of my tripping experience, if it bores you skip on. I think the first time I even heard of LSD would be middle school around '87. It must have been health class and we were on the drug chapter (my favorite chapter!). The textbook showed pictures of what it's like to be high on various drugs. I recall the LSD photo being rather scary and I definately didn't want to try that drug! Fast forward to high school: by my sophomore year I'm smoking pot regularly. I didn't have any friends, but at least the stoner crowd let me hang with them. Some of them were doing acid, and tried to get me to try it but I was scared to. It must have been that picture from my middle school textbook. But my big brother told me I should try acid. The summer after my sophomore year I did a hit of blotter. It was beautiful.

Again, in the early 90's when I tried acid, it seemed like there was a lot of it going around in south Florida. Was there kind of a push for a psychedelic era of the 90's? There was the catchy phrase, "The 90's will make the 60's look like the 50's". Then there was the grunge bands. How about that Woodstock '94 deal? If there was a push, it sure lost it's steam. I never hear of any acid anymore.

But even the acid that is and was available, how would it measure up to the stuff they were doing in the 60's, like the original Sandoz? Even the black market acid of the 60's was supposedly strong too. It makes me wonder when it started getting weak. If there are any old timers in this forum, I'd love to hear your take on this. If you eat enough mushrooms, can you trip as hard as those guys did on Sandoz? My brother told me he felt shrooms were more visual than acid. I figured visuals were a good guage of how strong the stuff is, period. Acid might seem more potent, but a lot of it was just that speedy feeling drawn out for 10 hours.

Well I'm typed out. Thanks for reading this, I'd love to hear some input.

Matt

Theres been countless threads about this, but I'll give my 2 cents.

Acid for me always seems more visual the mushrooms, but not as much of a body load. Acid is way more colorful and exciting then mushrooms. It gives you this "energy" that cant quite be explained, but you'll know when you do it. Mushrooms give me a very spiritual "connected" feeling, with good visuals, but a different type then acid. I'm usually not to energized on mushrooms either. My mushroom visuals seem to be kinda swirly with lots of melting. While acid visuals tend to be real bright and colorful, constant movement and life.

Acid is an electric, energizing sensation of colorful goodness. While mushrooms are more of an earthy, spiritual, mind fuck of melting entities and swirling ceilings

It seems to me that you are a well educated individual, and you're not just looking for another high. If that's the case, I would recommend trying the mushrooms during the daytime in nature. They have a very earthy feel to them, compared to acid which supposedly has a very metal feel to it. Supposedly mushrooms are much more spiritual and philoshophical than acid, which is more of a recreational drug.

Alot of what you said is very true.

Comparing LSD and mushrooms, to use the age-old adage, is like comparing apples and oranges. Each have their pro's and con's, some moreso than others, but as a whole they are each perfect in their respective sense.

Preferences for either are entirely subjective. My advice is to do both, get a feel for them, and take it from there.

they are two VERY different drugs. They compare about as much as weed and alcohol. for state of mind: Acid is funner and lets you explore the world that you live in, it's happiness on a paper. Mushrooms is scarier and takes more work to handle, it's introspective letting you explore yourself, find your problems and try to fix them. It also amplifies your emotions and if your not in control of them it can be a hell of a rollercoaster...

As for visually - closed eyed visuals are pretty similiar, acid might be more intense. Open eyed visuals are completely different. Shrooms seem to grow from things that are there, you can somehow ignore them easier than with acid. Acid visuals on the other hand are very in your face, shadow cubes come up and start blinking, very hard to ignore, yet very beautiful.

As for the body high it's quite different as well. Acid makes you feel invincible and all powerful in a sence. It boosts your energy and gives you jitters. You can find yourself clenching your teeth afterwards. Shrooms on the other hand sort of feel like a tummy ache that's warped into a weird euphoria, some people like, others dont.

Its hard to compare the 2, this topic comes up like twice a month. I find the visuals from LSD grow off things that are already there while mushroom visuals actually just appear from mid air. Ill try to add on whats been said above but the colors on LSD are more of a bright vivid feel while shrooms are more pastelle and natural.

are they really THAT different? other than the fact that they both produce euphoria, alcohol and weed have almost nothing in common. i though acid and mushrooms had at least some things similar in the fact that they both produce visuals, both expand the mind, both are psychedelic.

mushrooms vs acid ....i suppose perspective is the most important thing....personally i find either to be wonderful, but its based on set and setting more than anything....honestly, i dont consider either of them party drugs...both should be used for very spiritual shamanic journeys.. i personally consider ethnogens sacred, not to say i dont enjoy there use, i just always try to get something out of the experience. 4h0-dmt and lsd are both very powerful chemicals and will open doors...the trip is all in your mind...

I found this interesting article from High Times written in 1977.
http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/lsd/lsd_writings1.shtml
This electric feeling as someone described, is described by the author as a negative effect of LSD impurity. Maybe clean acid is supposed to be a smoother trip like mushrooms. Read the last sentence in the article, it's an attention getter.

my cat thinks that lsd gives more mechanical trips (i.e. in seeing mechanical or computerized items, fractals) vs mushrooms give a more organic vision perception. For instance you can watch tv on the ceiling on mushrooms but on acid you can see the matrix and words popping out of the walls that are changing color rapidily.

He never sees as much on mushrooms as lsd so far at least. Some mushrooms like amazons are way less visual and way more body high. Lsd is way more mental he thinks, mushrooms just aren't as intense, but then again you never know how much acid your really getting in a couple drops on your paw.

so does that mean that books like the therapeutic hand book of LSD and all other psychedelic writings that mainly focus on LSD would be useless for mushroom trips? why do some people and erowid say they are similar?

I find them to be more similar than dissimilar actually. If it were possible to "taste test" the peaks back to back, I'm not entirely sure I could tell which was which.

Deviate: be careful of what some people in here may tell you. In early trials, researchers found that subjects were unable to differentiate the effects of LSD and mushrooms. While some will swear on their lives that it's not true, it's possible that the differences ("earthy" vs. "boxy") are largely due to expectation.

That article is crap......first off, the electric feeling is there for LSD no matter what the purity. second of all, that last sentence is ludicrous. LSD is LSD, the purity effects how much LSD gets on the blotter;
  This is an excerpt of one of Chinacat's posts, he spent years working with LSD......so he knows what he is talking about;
"TYPES OF CRYSTAL
Needlepoint-very pure(95%) white powerdery crystal, was available in small amount`s. The best of the best
White Fluff-Very pure(95%) white light flakes of crystal. Still around and the most sought after. very pure
Silver-Good and clean(85-90%)-light greyish crystal. Was an unbelievable amount of this around in the late eighty`s and early nineties. Very good stuff. My first thumbprint was this kind. If you ate acid in the 80-90`s you probably sampled some silver.
Amber-Decent(70%?) This crystal varied from a light amber color to an almost dark brown color. Was always available. One batch called quadricept amber was the color of light honey and was very good.Lot`s a people worked with this crystal but I always would use silver instead since it was better and the same price.
Lavender-(60-70%?) light purple to almost black colored crystal. Like amber it varied batch to batch.
TJ(tornado juice) - purity unknown. I seen this shit in about four different colors and it always scared me. No experiance with it.
Champagne-(50-60%) black crystal, nasty stuff IMHO. I worked with it once and swore to never touch it again.

OK so you got some crystal and need to get it on blotter. It`s a pretty amazing feeling holding a jar in your hands that has 10 grams of crystal in it. That`s 100,000 doses in the palm of your hand. For dealing with laying we`ll say we got 1 gram. Acid is always layed 1 gram=10 tenpacks. A tenpack is tensheets. 1gram=10,000doses. If your laying needlpoint your doses will be 95mcg, because your crystal is 95% pure. If your laying amber your shit will be 70mcg, because it`s 70% pure. got it "
Here's another one;  "What people fail to realize is that there are alot of other factors affecting
a trip that can make the acid seem more potent. Just as these same factors are also what make people feel that they can tell the difference between unpure and pure crystal by eating a small amount. I do believe someone could tell the difference between the amber and silver, but not because of the impurity's present, but by the difference in potency. If you take a hit that's 50% then you are getting 50mcg. If you take a hit that's 90% then your getting 90mcg.
Thats a noticeable difference as it's almost twice as potent."  So, you see, LSD is LSD......don't let that article scare you off, LSD is beautiful stuff, My parents didn't even know each other in the 60s, and every LSD trip i've had has been an incredible and life changing experience, beautiful beyond description. Really good acid is out there, it'll find you when the time is right!   I find that there is a very noticable difference between LSD and mushrooms..my guess as to people thinking they feel the same is this; they both take you to similar places, plus they affect everyone in different ways. The thumbprint post came from the pub, which you can access, the Crystal to Blotter thread came from ODD, which you prob. can't access yet.

Read some of these posts, pretty good shit. Well, when I asked what acid was like, I was told it was like mushrooms... and so when I asked what mushrooms were like, they said hell, they're like acid! That was back in the late '70s ... for what its worth, I did microdots and blotters, maybe a dozen times in all, but once I started foraging shrooms, I did shrooms ... weelll, I dunno, maybe a hundred times or more... the acid I did was great, I never OD'd, not even sure that's possible... the experience varies every time... only once or twice didn't get enough and that was a bummer, no doubt... after the 1st or 2nd 'trip' on acid I made the comment it was good, like turning on the electricity... after those experiences, I would say in some ways psilocybin is more powerful but in a different way than acid... once read a book that said LSD targets the Ego/Es whereas psilocybin targets the SuperEgo/Es complex... deep shit, no doubt... someone also commented that every trip is different, and that's true, and went on to comment that every DMT trip is completely different, also true... all I remember FOR sure is I took many, many beautiful trips with the mushroom allies and if it was sometimes a little rougher than the smooth flow of the acid trip... well, that's life!

Back in the 70s....damn you're lucky man! Yeah, you can't OD on LSD...check out the thumbprint thread....they talk about massive doses in there. I find LSD and mushrooms to be generally on equal ground (as far as the power of the experience goes), obviously LSD is much more powerful chemically....but you already know that.  It seems to me that LSD and mushrooms do almost the same thing, but at different levels of conciousness. Hmmm, let me put it this way; LSD is a direct link to God, and mushrooms are a direct link to Mother Earth. I feel that both are gifts from above, tools that although different, are here to do the same thing. One thing is for sure, both are incredible, beautiful, and mind-expanding substances.  :sun: :peace:

The reason why someone tells you mushrooms are like Acid, it's because they have no other better drug or experience to compare it too. You cant really be told what a psychadelic trip is...you have to experience it for yourself. It doesnt mean they are close to being the same thing or even that similiar but acid is probably the closes drug to compare shrooms too....well maybe mescaline but I havent tried that yet.

Oh, no doubt. Remember, those comments came from the people I knew way back then, and I know the difference now, have been knowing... but if you got any extra 'stamps' send them along! Have not taken acid since '85... I will never say there's anything wrong with acid, or grass, for that matter, unless it might cost you your job... I thought the microdots were stronger than any blotters I ever got ahold of... my theory was the blotters, no matter how fresh they were, oxidized and were generally a milder trip... but its all good if you can get it! It seems like only external factors can really mess it up royally...

I've been reading all the responses to this post, plus that new thread that just started. It's fascinating stuff. That article really had me bummin' for a while. The guy just seemed like the ultimate authority on LSD. It was like they could market Austin Powers and retro clothing, but that would be the extent of any psychedelic revival, a consumer psychedelic revival! I hope your right in that there still is decent acid around. Shit, of the few times I did acid, the last time was 10 years ago in south Florida. I took 2 sugar cubes. This Jewish kid I knew put the drops on them right in front of me. It was a decent trip, but I remember it not being as strong as I wanted. There were lulls in between things. I'm hoping with these shrooms I can get to the levels I want. Plus I've changed in the last 10 years.

"Acid is like the Matrix, Shrooms is like Lord of the Rings"

Well said! And I must say, though both movies are EXTREMELY good and both have rather exciting 'special effects', I find Lord of the Rings to be a slightly more wholesome way to spend the afternoon, if you get my drift... After watching the Matrix I'm left with an energetic feeling of 'Imagine if that were true,' but the sequels leave me wanting, expounding fruitlessly on the composition of my psychic Uinverse - I am presented with a chaotic vision of futuristic lights and sharp edges (an altogether hilarious and intangible one)... But with Lord of the Rings I can get the book and really sit down and examine it in detail, find myself drawn into a magical land full of sincere and heroic proclamations of wonder, visions that are rich and soft, curved and mythical... I am humbled by the true diversity of 'middle earth', and left with an elvish feeling of profound calmness - and you know if Sauron carries the day only death angels will grow in Fangorn Forest!

But no doubt I will return to both movies in time, because they are both great value, serve different purposes, and contain different lessons for the viewer...

"The guy just seemed like the ultimate authority on LSD."  Yeah, he may seem like it.....but he's not even close. Sure he does acid, but the real authorities on acid are those who it or work with it....as well as people like Leary and Kesey. Alobar, there is absolute evil and absolute good....and there is a battle between them....however, war has no place for absolute good. To fight the good fight all you need is to love as much as you can, and be as tolerant and compassionate as possible.  :sun: :peace:

Well, I ate shrooms this evening. A friend and I split the first 14 we got off a cake, so 7 each. They were between 2 and 3 inches. I took the one that was 4 inches and beautiful. But we only got into a level 2 trip. I guess we'll double the amount next time. Are they less potent early in the fruiting? I got the physical symptoms but it didn't go much past that. I was getting mild visuals, but I like them to come on much stronger.

Hmmmm, well they were fresh, so my guess is that you just didn't take enough. You should go by weight to get a better idea of how high you're going to fly....but with fresh this can be hit or miss. Sometimes 35gs wet dry to 3.5gs, other times 35gs wet dry to 1.5gs.....so dried shrooms are the best way to to accurately gauge a dose. Next time, try to eat at least 40gs wet, that should give you a much better trip. Good luck.  :peace:

I haven't done LSD myself but I could definitely agree that mushrooms are kinda glibity gloop, and clickity clack fits my mental image of the acid trip (even though I'm sure that my mental image is way off). It also fits into the comparisons where people say that mushrooms are analog and LSD is digital, or the LOTR Matrix analogy.

Hmmm, I dunno. I've personally had certain intense trips on mushies where I thought to myself how similar it was to acid (visual wise). I always hear people expounding upon the great differences of the two, but honestly at least for myself, the hallucinations can be very similar.

On another note...while acid and psilocybin are very similar for me, I have noticed that my amt and mescaline visuals are more or less similar to eachother (and both quite different from shrooms and acid).
I only got to try mescaline once, and the visuals were very unique and hard to describe; shamanistic no doubt, but in a different way than mushies. What I do remember is that the mescaline was smooth! I mean hardly any of the mindfuck you'd get with other psychedelics, just smooth flowing visuals.

Maybe it's just as simple as this: LSD and Psilocybin have a similar makeup. But maybe LSD has more stimulant chemicals in it. That would give you a more precision edge, sharpening things up some. Or maybe Psilocybin has sedative chemicals.

thats pretty interesting, both the amt and the mushrooms are are an analogue of DMT, while the mescaline is a phenylethlmine(more stimulant)the lsd is in a world of itself with both a little bit of both effects..
ive noticed the tryptamine rush in dpt(my favorite, wish i could find it again) , 4h0-dmt, 5meo-amt and a simular rush from acid, though much gentler. mesculine was pretty easy coming up without too heavy of a body load....which suprises me....i expected to puke but didnt.
tryptamines are still my favorite

Mushroom trips pave an evolving emotional path leading you through different realms of awareness and understanding.

Acid trips turn you into the ball in the pinball machine of a fragmented reality.

Last time I did acid was six years ago - just didn't do it for me - always felt artificial, disconnecting and the come-downs were always like psychological torture - maybe it had a lot to do with where I was in my life, but the drug itself was a lot to blame. Whereas the after-effects of mushroom trips are always positive for me.

Also I like to see my psychedelic grow, rather than be sold to me by a drug dealer (not the nicest or most trustworthy of people - I fortunately haven't had to deal with one since giving up smoking dope last June) - I like the natural organic feel to mushrooms, you feel like you're being guided, rather than being thrown.

Each to their own I suppose, but I'm still anti-LSD and worried about the increase of its availability. Still think the jury's out on the long-term effects of this, still young drug.

I trip on shrooms about 10 times a year now - has been such a positive addition to my life in the past couple of years.

Okay, if you're only prepared to roll your eyes rather than critique or argue I'll illucidate:

I know my feelings on this matter won't be universally popular and it is just an opinion, based on my own experience and rationalisations. I'm glad I tried LSD

But...

My experiences on Acid were, in the long run, mainly negative. It kinda screwed up my life for a while, and I know a fair few people whose lives have been worse off due to taking acid - eg one friend ended up not leaving his flat for months and an old girlfriend had hallucinations and feelings of motion sickness for over a year.

There is a distinct difference between taking a substance prepared in a lab by people you don't know, you don't know exactly what is in it, is bought from drug dealer (how many are Chemists I wonder?) and is only just over 50 years old (no-one completely knows the long terms effects, this is still a young drug - the same goes for a lot of modern medicinal drugs)...

...to taking something which grows naturally, you have watched grow and has been used for centuries.

I'll take the natural over the synthetic any day.

Honestly I think legit science has spent alot of time investigating LSD since it's discovery and, physiologically speaking, it is almost certainly safe.

Mentally speaking, it is probably no more dangerous than psilocybin.
The instances of genuine "psychosis" or LSD precipitated mental disorders excluding HPPD are extremely rare considering the widespread use of this drug. HPPD is possible from either drug.

When you buy your drugs from a dealer...there is always an opportunity for misrepresentation. That said, shrooms bought from a dealer are in some ways perhaps less safe than bought LSD. A "dried mushroom" can be many things, including a vessel for adequate amounts of another drug (this doesn't happen much).
A piece of blotter, the most common form of LSD, 1/4"x1/4", can contain CNS active levels of only a few potential drugs...LSD and it's analogs being among them. So, while blotter can hold other stuff, if you get psychedelic effects from 1 blotter, you almost certainly took LSD.

The argument that a "natural" drug is in anyway "safer" or "better" than a synthetic drug is utterly arbitrary. Synthetic psilocybin, when properly made, does not differ from psilocybin contained in a mushroom, and can provide the same kind of trip.
Tropanes found naturally in datura can be quite nasty to ingest, and other plants will kill you when you ingest them.
Whether your chemical is coming out of a lab or out of plant makes no difference to the end user if it is the same chemical. When you ingest a chemical that isnt normally in your body, it interacts with your system in complex ways that need to be gauged objectively, not with biases like "natural over the synthetic any day".
Objective testing of LSD has shown it to be safe for your body.

Anyways, LSD is structurally analogous/derived from natural compounds found in ergot fungus...

Nevertheless you are entitled to your opinion, even if it seems a bit arbitrary to me.

It probably is a subjective bias due to personal experience on my part.

More than anything I think I'm riffing on the all encompassing positive experiences mushrooms have given me as opposed to the negative ones I had on LSD and seeing what it did to several friends of mine - perhaps LSD is simply not for me.

I still hold my feelings re natural vs synthetic - the same would go with synthesised psilocybin - for me the whole process of tripping begins with when I start the process of homegrowing mushrooms and watching them grow.

I suppose it's a question of belief rather than science.

So, each to their own I say.

never taken acid (but that fateful day is just around the corner, im so excited!) I believe that your basing your negative views of acid on your own negative experiences and because of the negative experiences of those around you (and that is a totally valid observation and conclusion based on your observation). However I believe these negative effects could occur with any psychedelic substance. The causes of HPPD aren't known and occur after using different psychedelics not just acid. About your friend not leaving his flat I have no idea what you're on about there.

Blaming a psychedelic experience on the fact that your friend lacked the motivation or initiative to leave his flat seems to be a bit silly to me.

Furthermore I hate this natural vs synthetic argument. I'd rather take a heroic dose of the 'dangerous and synthetic' lysergic acid diethylamide than take some 'safe and natural' datura. I suppose i should ingest some black mamba venom as it's natural and therefore safe. (hehe ok that was just a stupid argument but my point is natural does not always equal safe).

True ancient cultures have been using mushrooms and mescaline containing cacti for thousands of years before us. Who's to say they didn't also have HPPD (I hope im getting the acronym right). Perhaps those who had persisting visions became shamans (due to their never ending contact with the spirit world).

LSD has had a LOT of unnofficial research done with it. I don't know of one person that has overdosed (physically) due to lsd. --Although an elephant given 300,000mics did die-- However John Griggs (Brotherhood of Eternal Love) overdosed on a large amount of synthesized psilocybin and died.

I suppose this coincides with your synthesised vs natural safety argument but seeing as psilocybin occurs naturally and is the more toxic of the two you could say that mushrooms are in fact more dangerous than acid. (This is a ridiculous argument however as the amounts of mushrooms needed to be ingested to reach the amount of psilocybin that griggs overdosed on would be impossible to ingest).

I understand your concerns but believe them to be without any real foundation (apart from your own negative experiences that -from what i understand- don't really prove lsd to be unsafe, just psychedelic experiences generally to have a lasting effect on people) I believe that much more research must be done into ALL the substances we ingest.

To be anti-LSD is a very un-enviable position to hold here on these boards especially when you say things like 'it's increased availability' you're going to get some people angry  It's like your teasing all of us without acid by saying hey I can get it and you can't and i want to stop this cursed chemical from spreading. - hehe some might interpret it that way.

Thought I made it clear that I was backtracking....

Look, as I said at the start, I know this opinion is not going to be popular and I'm fine to admitt that it has more to do with my experiences and beliefs than scientific rational argument.

I have a belief in naturally growing psychedelics as gifts from the earth - rather than seeing it on a body chemical interface level it is important to me that what I consume grows naturally. I am also a vegetarian, grow my own vegetables, bake my own bread, eat as many whole foods as possible and I no longer smoke anything, drink alcohol or caffeine or eat refined sugars.

A lesson I learned long ago from mushrooms was that it is very important what we put into our bodies.

I am not puritanical about it - people can choose to experiment with whatever substances they want - having done so in the past I would be a hypocrite to suggest otherwise. I am totally for freedom of choice and drug experimentation has been a vitally important aspect ofmy life.

And as for my friend - he could not leave his flat, he was scared to death to leave his flat, petrified about leaving his flat. I have never seen anyone so frightened in all my life!

Okay, I'm probably carrying emotional baggage around and have bad associations with LSD. I just felt like voicing my opinion - one which I feel passionately about.

My experiences have caused me to have concern about LSD - as with any good debate on a message board the replies have helped me to contemplate how I feel about the issue.

To each their own...

haha ease up with the aggression! His wishes of it not being so widespread don't affect any of us personally. I doubt this has any effect whatsoever on the supply and demand of lsd :p

It just means this one person preffers the natural over the synthetic for his own reasons. It just means he won't be carrying the beacon of lsdlight and spreading the word of this substance.

The rest of the folk that love the substance can do that just fine. And have been doing so for so many years!

Although the anti-lsd viewpoint seems a bit wrong (IMO) but it's not like theorganicdomino has any choice in the matter - just won't recomend it to his friends i suppose. I just hope that if lucy calls them they will find it (or lucy will find them) with no trouble.

For me shrooms are all I can get my hands on. And there is something to be said for cultivating your own materials. You know there's no bad shit in there! By the way I e-mailed Bruce Eisner, the one who wrote that article. He wrote me back promptly. He was nice and answered my questions. He was friends with Tim Leary and other scholarly trippers of that era. I asked him if a high dose of shrooms would be anything like a Sandoz hit. He just said it would be different.

Re: LSD/Mushroom Comparison [Re: vanner]

You know I just read this entire post and the funny thing is that the only truly verifiable scientific psychic difference between LSD and mushrooms was not mentioned! That is one of trip duration. In case anyone doesn't know, a mushroom trip lasts about half as long as an acid trip, and when you are tripping, that extra 4 or 6 hours can be a LONG ass time. So, here's a little story of me and psychedelics... and I'll get to the difference of LSD and mushrooms at the end.

When I was about 10 years younger, I used to have intensely terrible trips on shrooms. I mean so bad that I would put them in the class of pure mental torture. I would get incredibly nauseated but, although I desperately tried, could not vomit no matter what I shoved down my throat (it seemed like my finger could just go down as far as I could shove it and have little effect other than making my throat clench up). I would often grow completely delusional and not understand concepts like space and time, turning me into nothing more than a dysfunctional schizo. I would often be paralyzed in pain, both physical and mental. I believe what was happening was a sort of panic attack that led to persistent and sever nausea combined with some sort of hypersensitivity to the mushrooms that led to a psychotic state.

Yet, my love of growing mushrooms, my curiosity, and my willingness to try them again and again, would bring me back to them almost every year! Imagine, if you will, being in a car wreck because you were drunk and then going out and drinking again and driving... again and again. I still don't know exactly why I kept with them. Something inside me told me that they were very important, so I stuck with growing them and trying them from time to time only to endure more nausea and torture.

About five years ago something happened to me that changed everything. My body grew much bigger from working out. I was medicated for depression. I was heavily medicated with beta blockers for hypertension (which would have otherwise probably killed me by now). Beta blockers also reduce panic and anxiety reactions which may explain something about the change. Anyway, unexpectedly my feelings tripping totally turned around in the course of about three years. It went from torture to pure euphoria! Last time I tripped, I ate 40-50 wet grams and the only feeling I got was like some cosmic sex and a direct link to God himself with wonderful visuals. Today mushrooms are a pleasure, an ecstasy really, that I reserve for a few times a year, and each time it's better than the last. I don't even get sick to my stomach a tiny bit! What exactly happened? I don't know. I don't really care either. I feel as if somehow I knew all those years that one day I would enjoy shrooms like I do today as a special pleasure reserved for very special occasions.

So going back to LSD vs. shrooms: I have also tried LSD, both in my youth and recently. LSD never made me sick like mushrooms, but I also have never tripped real hard on acid for some reason (probably got weak stuff). Acid wore me out from exhaustion. I mean after 8-12 hours, I got tired of grinding my teeth and smiling like a buffoon. I did not notice any difference in the type of hallucinations. I never "lost it" (i.e. delusion to the point I am basically raving like some lunatic) with acid like I have with shrooms. I never felt like acid was as spiritual as shrooms. I certainly didn't feel connected with God with acid, more connected with my own self I'd say. Having said all of that, I took acid four times while I've taken shrooms countless times, so I am not the best source on this one probably. All I know is that I cannot imagine acid will ever give me the pure euphoria that I have today on shrooms. Maybe there is something to be said about growing ones mushrooms, a hobby I find very rewarding. All that mental energy put into seeing a microscopic spore to a full-grown shroom connects one, I believe, to the resultant trip in a way that buying a blotter cannot.

Woah!

If you'd read the through-line of the postings you'd have noticed that I backtracked stating that I realised that where I was coming from was based of subjective opinions based on my own experience.

How could I not have an anti-LSD feeling from my experience and from my beliefs regarding the spiritual qualities of plant entheogens - which for that matter probably have more right to be called 'gifts from above' than something synthesised in a lab.

I was glad of the replies which made me contemplate the issue and actually changed my mind - your angry response in the face of me being humble and backing down seems a little mean spirited.

If I pissed you off I'm sorry...

...but I'm still pro-mushrooms and anti-LSD, just the same as a mate of mine whose dad was an alcoholic is totally against alcohol.

I liked both acid and shrooms, but I can certainly understand the disillusionment with acid; if its not strong enough, its boring and a waste of time; same can be said for the seeds. If its too strong about all you can do is ride it out and wonder when its going to end... Shoomies on the other hand are rarely boring!
Here's a link you might like to check out sometime; however, my experience has been that the colors and effects of anything on TV, video games or the computer is disappointing while tripping; maybe I'm really color blind and just too stupid to realise it!!! LOL!!!

And the sad thing is to compare them is to judge the experience... But I think about it too and what I think about them doesn't involve pros and cons... it is about what each substance does to my consciousness, perception and cognition.

Hi everyone, rather than start a new topic thought i would post this here

Ive taken Mushrooms on numerous occasions back when they used to be legal in the Uk, and done lsd a few times recently.

With mushrooms i mainly took them in open, natural spaces, and a few time with close mates in their houses. This was from the ages of around 17-19

With Lsd every time i have had it has been at a rave, either a festival or a club. 1 tab, or 1 drop each time. From 21-22.

Ive so far found mushrooms to be much more illuminating, to give me a really mindblowing and interesting state of mind, while with lsd, as much as ive found it to be fun, its felt a little less natural, and a lot more like im just having a laugh and seeing trippy colours. (apart from bits of one experience near the end of the year)

Set and setting is supposed to be incredibly important so maybe the raves are not the best places to take the substances? Or at least are leading to the sort of feelings im having? How much do you think this can change the experience?
Also ive only ever done 1 tab or 1 drop of lsd, while with shrooms i have expereinced much higher doses, whats your opinions on dosage in regards to experiences had?
