Renting a P.O. Box
    #3714436 - 02/01/05 04:58 PM (19 years, 1 month ago)

I wanted to rent a P.O. Box because I dont want anything linked with my home, but it asks for an address on the application form. Are they going to send anything to my home (notice letters? anything?), or is it to just verify if you are who you say you are?

You need 2 pieces of ID to get a P.O. box, they will notice if you write a fake address. A PO box will keep secrets from prodding family members and neighbors, but its not going to help any if the feds come looking for you.

Im not going to provide a false address, I just don't wany anything being sent to my home address, when Im setting it up to help keep a low profile in the first place. So I just wanted to know, will they be sending anything at all to my house?

Just ask them. They will probably just think you are ordering porn or something.

I read through posts like this and find it kind of funny. Learn to play the system. Learn how to use the system to your advantage!

#1) What kind of ID do they want?
#2) How well do they check the form?
#3) How distracting can you make it?

Just to give an example, The local stores went over to requiring a shoppers card to get the discounts. I picked up one item and chose the longest line. When they offered the card I replied "Sure ill take one!" I then took my time filling it out (NOTE: Pissing off everyone in line) the lady was in such a hurry to move the line along that she never looked at the form. She simply pulled the card off and dropped the form in the basket. Thus my Shoppers card lists my name as William Jefferson Clinton 1600 Pennsylvania ave. Washington DC.

Ok For NON-Post-office PO Boxes!

First is what kind of ID do they want? Will a college ID work? If so make one! They have no idea what an out of state college ID looks like and as far as they are concerned you just moved into town, you are staying with friends and need a permanent address to get your credit card statements to. (I have never seen one that required 2 forms of ID)

Second is how well do they check the form? Can you transpose letters or numbers? Can your current address go from 1923 Crap St. to 1932 Crap st. with out them noticing? Can the name Ashley Williams become Ashmel Williams?

Third is how much distraction can you arrange? Note when a magician is doing a trick he directs your attention to something, While you are looking there he makes the move and, presto, the airplane appears. This works best. Have several friends come in while you are filling out the form. Have one look like he may be shoplifting have others ask questions. This is enough of a distraction that in most cases you can get away with anything.

Then there is the never discussed forth idea. Just put in a change of address card on a vacant house. Have it shipped to that address and the post office will forward it to where ever you want. No muss not fuss, and 30 days later the change of address is gone.

What did you do for the photo ID? I'm not sure about other mail boxes, but I know that to rent a P.O. box, you are required to show two forms of ID (one with a photo).

Actually believe it or not, unless it is something that is extremely extremely illegal like a nuclear warhead, and not blatantly stinking like narcotics both of which are easily detectible, you can probably get away with most of the stuff (seeds and spores) sent through the mail.

Someone sending you stuff like seeds and spores alone is generally not grounds enough for a search warrant of the location. Otherwise I wouldve sent it to a bunch of people i dont like and watch leo wreck their place. The only real reason you would send it to a PO box is because you want to make it a little harder if leo is already surveying your location, and you dont want seeds/spores to add to grounds for a warrant. In which case a PO box is the least of your troubles anyway.

My recommendation is to bribe a friend to open one up, someone who has no prior knowledge of your intentions are and have him/her open up a PO box for you.

Ok, I am talking about non-post office PO Boxes like MailBoxes etc. The smaller the store the essayer it is.

As to photo ID's try this

#1) Go to thrift store and buy a used inkjet printer that will print good quality (8$)

#2) go to the office supply store and buy a pack of ID Laminate, a pack of ink jet photo paper, and a new set of ink cartridges for the printer. (Total around 45$)

#3) Using Gimp or Photo Shop make an ID card.

#4) Print the card and laminate using the ID Laminate, the cardboard cover (In the laminate pack) and an iron.

I like to do out of state college ID cards. They are common and easy to make. Just to give you an idea here is a image of a card I did for fun.

It looks great printed at 2400x600 DPI on my color laser printer. I print it on card stock then cut it out, sign, and laminate.

A side note is that the "We cash / No ID Required" will make you a photo ID as well and they will take any name you want to give them.

If they need a second form of ID it will normally be a letter sent to you at an existing address. For this you can find an empty house and send the letter there. Pick up the mail and you have your second form of id. If they do not accept that you can take that letter to the library and get a library card. Those are valid ID's and normally only require an envelope addresses to you (Must have canceled stamp!)

Ill be more than happy to answer any ones questions about this stuff.

There are a lot of ways around the system. For a photo ID do what kids have been doing for years. Get someones ID or DL, a photo of you and a pack of cold laminate. cold laminate your photo over the photo on the card and it will pass most places.
