P.O. Box Anxiety

I am thinking about getting a P.O. box for a little added security. I'm just a little hesitant to do it because I'm only 18 and I'm thinking they might be suspicious of me. If anyone has done this just enlighten me on what the process is for acquiring one of these. Also how big/expensive is the average box and do online sites ship to P.O. boxes?

Theres nothing suspicious if you don't act suspicious. You can get one if you're under 18.
And hopefully the security you're thinking of is to stop people at home from opening your stuff. It does nothing in the way of making you less busted if you get caught recieving something illegal.

What Elgr said is true. Also, you will be required to show ID and proof of your current address, such as a bill addressed to you.
For a PO box, the rental fee is pretty reasonable and there are several different size boxes available. I haven't rented a PO Box for a while, but in the late 1980s, I seem to remember paying about $20 (US)for 6 months or so.
If a mail order company uses the Postal service, they will probably ship to a POB, but each company has different shipping policies. some companies will not ship to a POB. Before renting a POB, check with the company you plan to order from to verify they will ship to a POB.
A private mail box can also be rented from private companies like 'Pony Express' 'Mailboxes etc' that will accept both US mail, UPS, FedEx and almost any other type of shipping. I'm not sure about the cost, but rental is probably month to month, and is almost certainly more expensive than a normal POB. I'm about 99% sure you will also have to show ID.

a PO box will only offer you security from, say, nosey roommates - people who might notice the mail delievered to your home. Since your identity is attached to a PO box, it will not be more secure or some sort of barrier from the law. I guess you could fake your identity while applying for a PO box, but that might prove to be difficult and warrant unwanted attention.

Price depends on the size you want, but I got mine for $36 for 6 months. I think it is a B sized box (5"X 5"). The smallest is $24. All I had to do was fill out a form and think I showed my ID. They took my money and gave me a key. I think you can even get them online at their website www.usps.com

do this, this is ultimate security imo get a po box in a friend of a friends name with his info and doesnt know to much about you. problme solved then just use his key and make sure he doesnt have any other keys to the po i , so if the feds wanna catch you the only way poss is to wait until you go there.

a con artist friend of mine got a PO box with a fake ID that looked nothing like him when he was 16.
I dont think anyone really cares - even the most suspicious post office employee would likely be like;
"damn kids ordering mushroom needles to MY post office."
big deal - a suspicious employee doesnt have anything to do with you being watched. Just dont receive 4lb packages of pot every 2 weeks on the dot, and you'll look like joe blow.
or start a company and you'll look enterprising.
