:syringe: :syringe: :syringe:Ok i made some spore prints yesterday and am about to make some syringes once they have cooled.  They are currently sitting in my glovebox with all the tools to make them.  I am doing three of syringes with three prints. I wanted to use one of them to do a karo tek.  Does anyone have a link to a karo tek?  I've only found some half assed info thus far and want to be sure i do it correctly.  Thanks  :syringe: :syringe: :syringe: :syringe:

No link that I can dig up, but this is what I do, hopefully it helps. Very simple:

-100 ML water in a 1/2 pint jar.
-1 Teaspoon Karo (The vanilla Karo works fine)
-Stir the solution until karo is dissolved.
-Broken glass shards in bottom of jar (optional, I tried this last time and it worked great. The shards break up mycelium clumps when shaking to distribute more)

Cover and pressure cook for 15 minutes. Inject a few CC's (or less) at injection point, and cover with tape. I use a glob of sealant at the injection point, works great.

Suer does!! thanks bro!!  I'm using karo light syrup not vanilla? Should work just the same?  I also don't have any shard so i'll have to just do water, karo, syringe?  I'm also doind this to be sure that the syringes i made aren't contamed before using them to know up jars.  Is that a good way to gaurantee syringe viability?

Regular Karo light is what people use. HolyDiver says vanilla is OK too. Good to know.

If the sterile Karo jar is in your sterile glove box, you could skip the syringe and just drop some spores into the jar.

Glass shards are optional. I find that a 1/2 pint jar half full has lots of room inside to bash the mycelium to bits.

Since I'm growing on BRF, I put a pinch of that into the jar before the PC. The theory is that the mycelium get used to it, and develop the chemistry to eat it. That's what Staments said about agar anyway. Every bit of the BRF ends up inside the gob of myc, so I guess they like it.

Your mileage may vary.

what glove box to make a karo jar? man thats kinda extreme..we all know how to make karo jars if not then practice,but glove box to me is kinda over kill..

If vanilla didn't work, then my Karo wouldn't have even started.

it's all i can find.

i wouldn't use glass shards, ick. maybe a marble if you really wanted to do that, but regular shaking seems to work fine for me.

why not just use the suck 'n squirt method? or break it up with the sterilized syringe needle?

I don't want glass shards in my innoculations. eew.

It's not like you'd have glass dust in there that would get sucked up.  Shards, small sharp chunks of broken glass.  They lie on the bottom of the jar, they don't get sucked up in a syringe.

Why not use suck n squirt w/ a needle?  Well every time you open the jar, especially if you go trying to break up clumps with a needle, you're inviting contams to the party.

What's the reason for you not wanting to use something sharp to break it up?  :wtf:

this is how i do it. if you have any questions just ask. take a pf style jar (one with holes in it). put 2 tsp. of karo in it. boil about 130 cc's of water (allow for the evaporation). once the water is boiling pour it into the jar with the karo in it and place a layer of saran wrap on it real quick(your going to need to have 3 sheets already cut),the heat will kill any initial bacteria, screw the lid on real quick and then place the next two layers of saran wrap on it. place in the fridge to cool down. once cool lift the first layer of saran wrap and inoculate trought the first 2 layers of saran wrap with 1cc of solution then place the third layer back on. and place in incubator. i dont shake mine at first so i can see the pretty little chunks (once you see a good size cotton ball your ready to go). once ready to inoculate take syringe with needle suck up some of the karo mix shot back into jar as fast as you can to break up the mycelium. by doing karo you will help reduce the chance of contams because you will skip the amount of time it takes to germinate the spores. 100% succees to date. and it turns 1cc into 100cc's so much better in so many ways if you have any questions of any sort i will answer to the best of my abilities.

exactly make you up some karo, we can't begin to tell ya how easy it is to make the jars. you can knock up a half pint of 12cc if ya want,not that i recomend it but the idea is you have so much extra myc that you have unlimited syringes for using.

So lem your saying that i dont' have to sterilze for an hour?  Just add boiling water in the karo, saran, place in fridge and then noc up?  Easy as that??

I'm using a syringe that i made of a print of my first flush (which was absolutley delicious i might add!!!  :tongue:    And i wanted to do karo 1)becuase of the amount of solution i'll end up with but also to gauge the viablity of my homemade syringe (i made 3 out of three prints).  There is very little dark particles in the spores so i was wondering if i can use the entire syringe in the karo?  If so what would i then increasa the water level too??  Thanks everyone!!! :crazy2:

Actually, It's very easy to kill and block contams when you open your jar.  You need 1 thing: Lysol Disinfectant wipes, or something similiar.  I also recommend Hand Sanitizer (99.9% germs).  Drape the Lysol wet wipe over the jar where u plan to open it.  Slide the needle underneath it while covering any openings or puncture a hole in the wet wipe.

Depending on your spore solution darkness, dont use more then 2cc's per 100ml solution. The spores wont have enough nutrients to share and they get weird, in my case they all found each other and formed a tight blackish-purple spore mass. ~D

Thanks maj  :laugh:.  Wondering if there is any other way to measure out the ingrediants (karo, water)?? Besides cc's i dont' have an empty syringe to meausre.  Thanks in adavance i'm about to jump in. 

Also do you sterilzie the water/karo solution on the stove before nocing up?

Well, a lot of pint jars have 100 & 200ml imprinted marks on them, so thats one way. If you don't have that then 120ml is 1/2 cup. Just pour a lil less then a half..its not exact science, so 120ml would work fine too.

As far as sterilizing I just use distilled water, mix in the karo really well, put saran wrap over the the top with 2 slits for air to escape, microwave for 2.5 mins, let cool for 3, then microwave for another 2.5, then let it cool in the microwave...have a piece of wrap ready, put it over the top slowly when u open the microwave, pull out the jar..have another wrap handy, inoculate the jars, put the other wrap over and rubberband it..put in ur incubator. ~D

oh, yea...cc= cubic centimeter, ml=milileter.

1000 ml in a liter =)

Liter is just the titled name given to describe the volume 1,000 cubic centimeters take up.

Edit: the reason cc's = mls is cause ml is base ten in relation to a liter( think metrics =D) and a liter is defined by 1000 cc's...so a ml naturally would be 1/1000th of a liter, which is a cc..hope this helps!
